I don't know if Giroud and Tompkins suffered concussions, but seeing two players knocked out, lay on the ground, and then immediately return to play doesn't seem right. The medical staffs should have more authority on whether these players should return or be subbed, and the rules should have a provision for these situations. Just as recent as yesterday Mourhino complained about Hazard receiving medical treatment; these players aren't gladiators--their medical interests should be priority.

It is certainly not up to the player to decide whether he is fit to continue or not.

How is the doctor supposed to know if the player tells him he never lost consciousness as is being reported?

And I am sure the doctor took his symptoms into account when he allowed him to stay on. Do you think every clash of heads is a concussion lex? Because essentially we would be play 9 vs 9 every game.

It's only Giroud.

Of course not ever clash of heads leads to a concussion. Not even sure Tompkins was, but Giroud looked pretty fackin' out of it as he lay there, even limper than the performance he had been putting in up to then 'leading the line'.
Can't recall which player it was that rolled him onto his side, but the players round him all looked concerned and he certainly wasn't moving.
By their very nature, players will, generally speaking, all want to play on. Using that as an excuse to allow them to do so renders pretty much the majority of the head-injury guideline redundant.
It's not good enough.

And I am sure the doctor knew that whilst running onto the field.

Great excuse.

What excuse? Doctors are trained and paid to assess the players after injuries. How can anyone question their decision unless they have access to the facts that they had in that situation? Has Giroud been admitted to hospital today? Because unless he is now out for the next two weeks, they were correct!
Of course if Giroud is out for medical reasons, it is fair to accuse the medical team of being negligent and they should lose their jobs over it.

Concussions are weird things, you cant really tell how bad someone is until you see them running again, just asking questions wont help them

How is a concussed player meant to say what's wrong with him? He has just been concussed, he doesn't know what's what, let alone self diagnose what's wrong with him.
Aside from the Lloris uproar it is something that is dealt with very poorly in football.
