VJ Day 70th Anniversary

Bit off topic but thought id mention it as we have a lot of erm.. military fans on here.

So its 70 years to the day that the Japanese surrendered when Emperor Hirohito agreed to the potsdam declaration.

If anyone's interested on what happened to our servicemen over there I can thoroughly endorse "the forgotten highlander" by Alistar Urquhurt. "Unbroken" by Laura Hildenbrand is not too bad also although a little americanised(a few porkies are told imo).

Anyway any other good war books? Finished all the Antony Beevor ones. Currently reading "Killing Patton" by Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard. I know the authors are not everyone's cup of tea but they do a good job in this one. Patton comes across as a severe nutcase.

A Long, Long War by Ken Wharton

It's not about WW though it's about Norn Iron, as told by the guys on the ground. Completely unbiased first hand account of what happened over the years.

I doubt its anything serious. Went on holiday then had a few heavy weeks along with sustaining a few injuries so think my bodys just ran down. So av been pissing non stop for about 4 weeks now and everytime a go to the docs the cheeky barsterds just keep testing me for stds and hitting me with antibiotics.

Last week they decided to test it over a period of time so am now on incontinence pills(for elderly gents) to get me through work and through the night.

Can't believe I forgot Life and Fate by Vasily Grossman.

Grossman was a Russian journalist for the Red Army newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda, writing firsthand accounts of the battles of Moscow, Stalingrad, Kursk and Berlin.

Life and Fate is a work of fiction based heavily on what he witnessed during the the war.
