Rooney bashers

Look behind the door, look under the bed, even look under a mossy stone and you might come across a Rooney Basher...seems today they are all well hidden
Now I am not saying he is in the class of Messi, CR7, Neymer, etc etc, but once in a while, he does show that he still has that stuff that is worthy of playing for the legendery Manchester United. It's just nice to hear their ever-critical voices silenced for a game or two. and a little nudge nudge too!

But Rooney needs to provide pace and movement too which in the past 18 months he hasn't really done.

Last night was also different to what we will be used to in most games. Brugge had to stretch the game to try and score, it left huge gaps in the back that we exploited (full credit to us for doing so), this is rarely going to happen in games and if it is only really in the last 10-15 minutes.

For the majority of games opponents will be organised and sit relatively deep. This is where pace and movement is needed like you say but Rooney also has to provide this.

If you watched Aguero in the Chelsea match the movement by him was so much different and it allowed him the space for passes to be made.

Yes idiots, like I said only idiots would claim he isn't good enough for League One.

You are also guilty of it by assuming that Rooney isn't getting the perfect service to score goals. Not all goals are laid on a plate, the striker will often have to do work to create the chance and it is these occasions where Rooney often lets himself down.
------------------------------------

To be fair, I have said that if you give him the service he will score. I have accepted that he isn't as likely to create his own chances as frequently as he once did. However, we have enough quality players in behind him that we should be able to provide him with that service. Hopefully as his confidence improves he will find his touch again and create a few goals for his teammates, but I doubt we will ever see the Rooney again that regularly creates his own chances.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When did Rooney regularly create his own chances? The season when he scored 30 goals, if my memory serves me right Valencia was putting in world class performances that season and putting balls in on a plate for him. The last time I remember Rooney making his own chances was euro 2004.
------------------------------------

I suppose that depends on how you are defining making his own chances. Is it beating a man before shooting? Two men? Does dropping a shoulder or trick and sending the player the wrong way count, or does he have to beat them with pace? What about playing a one-two and busting a gut to go clean through?

As I said, he needs service more than he has previously, but given that service he will score goals.

It means all of those. Goals come from all manor of ways and Rooney's poor touch combined with lack of movement means chances can't even begin on many occasions.

It was one game, one. I'm glad he broke the duct, hopefully can kick on from here.

Let's not kid ourselves, that defense was awful, and let's not forget the fact rooney hadn't scored an away goal in many months.

Jury's still out for me, he's never been world class, very good player, but never WC, let's see how he does at the weekend before proclaiming 'he's back to his best'.

In which case I would say that he has always created his own chances, as his movement and desire to run into space has always been there. I just don't think that our style of play in the previous 2 seasons have really allowed us to stretch teams. Even so, when you look at his goals from the last 2 years, many of them are as a result of good runs/timing and from his desire to get on the end of chances.

I'd say he definitely did so more in the past but a combination of a decline in a burst of pace, decline in touch and lack of movement combined with the way we play means we don't create to his strengths as well as him not allowing chances to be created on top of him messing up early chances.

There are multiple factors why it's unlikely we will see the Rooney of 5/6 years ago and the main ones are he is declining as a player (as all players do) and we don't really play to his strengths the way we did in the past.

Lmao. That did not take long. We were facing a defence which on maaaannny occasions we were 3 against 1 and people wonder how our midfield could find him in space?

So let me ask just how many times we find this kind of space? Or teams with instructions other than just to stifle us. Why do you think the top 6 prem teams all have an imposing striker leading their line? It's like people just started watching football yesterday on these boards.

Here is the kicker; We scored 7 out of 8 goals in 5 games against one team and you do not think maybe the opposition had something to do with it? Did you fall off a tree and hit your head?

Watched Rooney's goals 6 times already and enjoyed them immensely but I just wished we were playing more teams like Bruges. Let us hope Rooney reverses his obviously steady decline. No one brave enough to predict his demise which has been obvious for years? I am. ROONEY IS DONE!! Not league one done, but should be playing for Newcastle done. If someone had a sliver of guts he would have been sold and replaced. We will not win another title till he is removed as the main man in this team.

One good game... We Rooney "haters" need to wait another 10 games again right? Sure why not.
