What shape do you like?

Maybe a 38-22-34? But sadly they don't allow that many players in a team.

So we are probably left with a choice between 442 with two wingers, 442 in a narrow formation, 451, 4231, 433, 352.

The decision is to me not really about what formation is preferred, its about which gets the best from the available players, and particularly the key players, not that we have many of those nowadays.

We know that Danny Batth is back in contention this weekend, that whoever we play on the left of midfield wont be anywhere near as good as Sako, and that Afobe has yet to convince as a lone striker in his time with Wolves. And we know that although Kenny has tried a number of shapes, and lots of players, our midfield has not looked good in any match this season but for half an hour against QPR.

So who do we select and how do we set the team up to change our fortunes and get back in contention at the right end of the table. Or are our players and manager simply not good enough for us to get there?

If up top is "BOOM" and it's "BA-BOOM" at the back......well then you have no argument from me. The numbers are just numbers.

Difficult one this. I think the midfield needs prior attention right now as they're not covering the defense and not helping out the strikers either, it seems.

I'm pretty sure 4-2-3-1 worked well last season and I'd be inclined to play that, although with Sako it was 4-3-3 a lot. As he's not here and we don't have a like for like player, the former system would be my choice. Or at home have a 3-5-2 as most opponents go with one up front.

Who plays is going to be a mystery, but I wouldn't put square pegs in round holes.

Martinez

Iorfa
Batth
Hause
Golborne

McDonald
Price

Henry
Afobe
Byrne

Eno or Le Fondre

Right personnel Wolfie, but I'd have Price deep & McDo linking with the front two.

Martinez
Iorfa - Batth - Hause - Golbourne

Price
Byrne - McDonald - Henry
Afobe
Le Fondre

Not seen enough of Byrne & Wallace to form much of an opinion yet. Of the two I think Byrne probably has the most potential to make an impact.

I'd be tempted to give Ojo another go on the left to give us some balance, but based purely on his performance v Brighton & Henry's v Charlton, I'd have to go with Henry.

I accept that point tam but I think a 433 can work well if it's the front 3 that provide the width and flexibility rather than the middle three. The ideal in the front 3 would be for Dicko to be the central one, and I do think we need to find someone that can play that role. Le Fondre could possibly do it and although he was hopeless in his last game, he had been doubtful so maybe wasn't fully fit

I didn't think ALF was hopeless against Brighton, just misused. Punting aerial balls at a 5 foot 9 inch poacher and giving him no midfield support was never going to work.

I do think he needs to run the channels a bit more, but I felt a bit sorry for him on Saturday.

ALF became the sacrificial lamb against Brighton due to Coady's sending off. He didn't do much before then, but neither did most of the team.
Wolves do tend to hoof the ball forwards when under pressure or can't spot a pass. Batth is particularly guilty of this, which is why I thought that Stearman was the better centre back.
Hopefully, Wolves will try to use their wingers more and deliver decent balls from the flanks. We can then see whether ALF is worth keeping at the end of the season.

Players misused.

The story of our season thus far.

It's possible that you could be fielding the youngest back four in Wolves history today? It's lovely to see these youngsters take the centre stage.
