Lucas

Despite maybe being partly at fault for a goal yesterday, Lucas Leiva was immense. I cannot believe why Rodgers would want to ship him out (if reports are true) because he's so important to this team when on form.

One of many good performances yesterday - with Milner giving his best display yet, Ings running himself into the ground and of course Sturridge showing us what we've missed. Moreno is growing in confidence and Coutinho continues to pull the strings.

The defence is just bizarre and I can't fathom why they keep giving away such cheap goals. Can doesn't convince me at centre back which is fair enough. Play him in midfield or not at all I say.
Anyway, here's to Lucas Leiva.

Can's ability to bring the ball out is what makes the back 3 work but concentration is an issue at the moment for him. He will get better and probably suits a back 3 than midfield.

I'm still not sure about Lucas. He does struggle against teams with pace but is the only player who can play that role. By and large he does a crucial job for us.

Carragher barely ever brought the ball out, he was a huge believer of getting rid of it. He even had a debate with Roberto Martinez about whether it's better to get rid of it or play it from the back. Martinez believed it's better to play it from the back, Carragher thought otherwise.

For me it's about which players you have. If you have John Stones, by all means play it from the back. If you have Skrtel, Sakho and Lovren, get rid of it.

Can adds something when we are playing a team set up to defend when he brings the ball out from the back.

However, my worry is that he can be got at defensively. He will get more protection from Clyne, but I do think teams targeted him last season with good effect when opposition managers looked to exploit the 3 CB system.

Can is too dozy to play any defensive role at the moment.

Can for me is an attacking midfielder.

I think he is best getting on the ball in midfield and powering into the final third, where I think he has decent quality and composure.

The trouble is we have 27 players who want to be the central attacking midfielder (those issues about our lop-sided unbalanced squad again).

I don't think Can is actually a defensive player at all.

I think he is a bit lazy off the ball and doesn't think like a defender.

In a 3 we can get away with it to some degree because there is more cover and he can affect the game when we have the ball, but he doesn't really want to be there and if we play him there long term I think it will hurt his development and I could see him getting the hump.

I wouldnt say attacking midfielder. He has the tools to defend...just has suspect positioning and switches off a bit too much.

Box-to-box in the Yaya mould.

I think Can will need to adapt as a defender. He played at the back for Leverkusen at times, we play him at the back and now Germany play him at the back.

Just like Carra who started as a midfielder he made his career as a defender and Can may have to do same.

Carra had no attacking ability though and thought like a defender.

Can has bags of ability.

Leiva, yes I would liken him to Toure apart from I think Toure is an attacking midfielder as well. He doesn't want to defend either, which was fine when he played for Barca and they were hammering everyone but gets exposed at times for City.

I think can is a future box to box star. I also think he's lacking a little confidence in the final third. He looks very raw but again he will become better with experience

Needs a goal or two build confidence as he undoubtedly has alot of talent

Toure actually started out as a defensive midfielder. Hard to understand why when you see the attacking attributes he has. Can has stated that this season he has been told to work on his attacking, as he is too limited in midfield. It's frustrating, I'm sure, for him that he has been told to work on this and is now back in a three man defence.
