Still think we paid over the odds for Ӧzil?

£42,5 million is what we paid for the 26 year old german wizard. I am not going to bother comparing this transfer to the likes of Sterling, Mata or any other player who is perceived to have cost too much. I am of the opinion that if the money is there and the player ticks a box that needs to be ticked then by all means buy the player. The problem only occurs when the player fails to perform like Di Maria which I will come back to later.

I always think of Aguero when people discuss price tags and you realise that £38 million in 2011 looked like a lot but he has been worth every penny and more.

Coming back to Ӧzil, he has by no means shown his full repertoire at Arsenal football club because he is a marvelous player who like Cesc and Messi started showing world class form at a young age. There are several reasons why he has failed to perform in our domestic league but the Di Maria story got me thinking about why he was underwhelming for large parts last season.

Ive never rated Di Maria as a top top player but he is certainly better than what he showed at united and already PSG are witnessing that. The human psychology aspect of sport is so underplayed.Look at Yaya after the death of his brother and the Yaya who has started this season in great form.

Di Maria obviously did not want to be at united and was forced out by Perez and funny enough Ozil is another player who was forced out.Say what you may about Real Madrid, call it a circus or a joke, they certainly aren't a joke to the players. They are in my opinion the most glamourous club in the world and for players it is a step down to leave the club.We saw an unsettled Benzema change his mind about leaving El Meringues.

There are rumours that once Ӧzil was told he would be sold he preferred a move to United or a reunion with Mourinho at Chelsea as Arsenal were certainly an undesirable destination at that time. If Wenger had not personally called him we had no chance in hell of signing him.

The guy is 26, still in great shape (at least better than Cesc), one of the best playmakers ever seen in the game and yet we still moan about his £42,5 million transfer fee.Really, In today's climate??

Maybe , just maybe last season we saw a player who was unhappy to be at Arsenal and had to adjust to the step down from Real and living in a new country. We have a similar story with Bobby Pires who transformed in one season and became the best winger in the country after one season of finding his feet.

We have an outstanding player and despite his languid and frustrating style he is still pure class. Yes he struggles in the big games but so does Cesc and Silva at times. If we give him the necessary support he may just explode and become unrecognizable from the player we saw last season.

If he adds goals to his game he will be a player of the year candidate.

What do you mean, Jenius?

I have absolutely no doubt some of Ozil's struggles are down to playing with an attack not really suited to him. Playing him with a big forward, whether it's our lamppost or Ibra, was never going to bring him to the top of his game.

Shouldn't be the be-all and end-all of his game, though. Doesn't seem to stop other playmakers and creators like Silva still delivering.

Yes it does! Did you read any of Jenius' post? He just explained it to you clearly.

Take Aguero away from Silva and he's not the same player, Costa-Cesc form also linked, Iniesta-Messi. Playmakers of today aren't individuals (unless you're Zidane) they're very dependent on who they make-plays-for.

Ozil hasn't been given the tools to reach his potential at Arsenal yet, simple as that. Hopefully that's changing.

No coincidence Ozil's best games have been behind Welbeck/Theo and neither are top class, imagine we had someone of the caliber that these other players you bring up have?

Time to put some logic together and wonder why Ozil looks top notch one week and then underwhelming the very next. Mostly linked to who he's playing with.

Another Özil sharticle about why he couldnt fullfill his full potential

Silva played some of his best football last season when Aguero was injured. And for a run of several games, he has been Spain's best player, playing from the right wing. People do not use the excuses with him which have been manufactured for Ozil.

World class player whos best is yet to come. Expecting big things this season. If we play well then he takes us to another level.

We didn't overpay we just haven't seen the best of him yet, he's capable of living up to the price tag

or most likely down to the inconsistency he's been criticised for his whole career...

Jeez put Aguero in our team and Ozil would look soo much better than he already is.

Put Giroud in the city team and Silva would look nowhere near as dangerous.

He does need to take control of big games against the likes of Chelsea/United/City however collectively the whole team usually plays garbage against the bigger teams.

He has performed in big games though. (Pool last season, United FA Cup, Monaco away)

Of course we didn't overpay for him.

Ozil's the most influential signing Arsenal have ever made. He's delivered most of the time on the field as well.

Before Ozil: Zero titles in 8 years, Gervinho & Park.

After Ozil: 4 titles in 2 years, Alexis & Cech.

£42.4m was a snip 💷

The original Galactico. Well worth 42.5m imo. So frustrating at times but has had a great effect on the club.
