Following on from a brief exchange of comments with a much beloved fan of your club on JA yesterday, I want to know this please:
Aston Villa - Villa
Crystal Palace - Palace
Manchester City - City
Manchester United - United
I think you can see the pattern there, the last name is the common shortened version of the name.
And now we come to your club, Tottenham Hotspur. I was called up for calling them Hotspur, it's "Spurs". But why, why aren't you Hotspur? Snoop Dogg sang "Drop it like it's hot", not "Drop the Hot".
Why aren't Spurs hot?

Not as annoying as THE Arsenal.
Who else has THE as a prefix to their actual name?

The Mighty Tottenham Hotspur.
Always refer to myself as a 'Tottenham' fan not a 'Spurs' fan
I always refer myself to being a Tottenham fan, but always say I am going down to see Spurs play. They have been known by both names since they were founded I believe.

Maybe because we have a unique name then we are being referred to in the media in a unique way. Why not just embrace it for that reason?
You can stick your uniteds, citys, rovers and towns. There will always only ever be ONE Hotspur!
