Livingston and Gretna

After 16 games, Dundee United have 8 points.
The lowest ever point scorers in a 38-game league, Gretna, had 6 points after 16 games back in the 2007-08 season.
They won their next game, giving them 9 points. (It was against United).
If Dundee United draw their next game, they will be equal with Gretna's points tally after 17 games. If it's a loss, then United will be worse off than the worst ever SPL team.

However, Gretna's points tally at the end of the season included a 10-point deduction for going into administration. The lowest points tally without a deduction was Livingston back in 2005-06 season.
They had 8 points after 16 games
They picked up their next points in a win in their 18th game (It was against United).
So United need at least 4 points in the next two games to not be as bad as the real worst ever SPL team.

Just in case anybody wasn't fully aware of the mire United find themselves in.

As an aside, Gretna only managed 5 wins in their final season. 2 were against United. Livingston managed a paltry 4 wins... 2 were against United. If only United could play United...

Think you'll get out of it?

zero sympathy. Goodbye. You'll do well not to do a Dunfermline and drop again the following season. As St mirren are finding its a relatively competitive league..

I think we need to rely on other teams going on a bad run. The rest of the league picking up decent points against each other whilst United are struggling against everybody. Very tight mid-table this season - as many points between 5th and 11th as there is between 11th and 12th.

And unfortunately whenever these teams do go on a bad run it's halted by United. We probably need a few key players from other teams to get injured, but if Mckay gets hurt we're absolutely done for.

Depressing stats all round, Hobo.

Should have won that match yesterday, could easily have been three up by half time. When Spittal missed with only the 'keeper to beat I said to my mate that it was worryingly similar to last Saturday - brilliant move for the first goal then very quickly miss a golden chance. The team just don't have the mentality to finish off the opposition.

Got to admit I was completely convinced we we're going to win on Saturday. After Mackay missed the chance to make it 2-0 it seemed to be the turning point Confidence really is at an all time low. Realistically we're 4 wins away from getting out of the bottom two, and that's only if the other teams get virtually nothing.

With the run of games we have until boxing day, if we're still 7 points (or further) I'd say we're gone.........

There is a tiny sliver of hope. Ross County only had 9 points at this stage last season and ended up 8 points clear of the play-off place.

They did go on a run of 8 wins from 9 games however. I fear United will need a similar run of form to stay up.
