Our last 4th Place Team vs Now

I just wanted to put together a little article comparing the squad we have now compared to the last time Rednapp got us 4th. I think we all remember that horrible season when Chelsea somehow managed to beat Bayern...! Anyway, let's begin.

Lloris vs Friedel: I think we all agree that Lloris is the better player here however Friedel brought us great stability when we needed it.

Walker (now) vs Walker (then): I'm not sure if Walker is better now than he was back then. This season he has been awesome but still makes some silly mistakes. This one is debatable.

Alderwierld vs Dawson: Toby is my man here however I loved Dawson! Together these 2 would have been great.

Vertongen vs King: King has to be the winner here. I think Verts is awesome however King was King.

Rose vs BAE: For me, BAE comes out on top. Better technically and contributed a lot. I like Rose and think that he has a lot of potential but BAE for me was the better footballer.

Dembele vs Modric: Dembele has been class but Modric is at a higher level if you ask me.

Dier vs Parker: I never liked Parker and preferred it when Huddlestone played next to Modric. The midfield was so much better! For me Dier wins this one, he is the utility man that gives the team balance and I think the Watford game showed that. Still has a lot to learn but probably my favourite player at Spurs now.

Alli vs VDV: Alli is a great talent and could probably become a lot better than VDV was back then but I have to go with VDV. He was magic and scored important goals. Loved the NLD as well. Maybe I'll revisit this article next year and choose Alli instead however now I have to go with VDV.

Bale vs Eriksen: Bale Obviously.

Lamella vs Lennon: This is a hard one however I have to go with Lamella here because he contributes more of an end product. I think it goes to show that Lamella is not really that bad.

Kane vs Adebayor: I think that Adebayor was probably the more talented of the 2 but that means nothing if you cannot perform. Kane wins all day for me.

5 out of the 11 players; nearly 50% would probably have gotten into that team. Not too bad considering!

Anybody else agree? Have different thoughts?

As a front six I don't think you could look past five from the unit at the start of the CL campaign, when we were smashing sides.....

..........Hudd...Modric
Lennon.....VDV.......Bale

They had a bit of everything as a unit, great balance, but it got broken up by an injury to Hudd.

Our back four now, Lloris and Kane . Also a great unit.

Individually from that side, you would have to pick from Dier and Hudd, Lennon and Eriksen (but break the balance) and King and Vertonghen (but also break the balance). No guarantee the changes would produce a better side

Hudd

he used to spray those passes

He was quality all through 2009/10, then the Autumn of 10/11 until he got that injury.

How many goals did we score in the 8 CL group and qualifier games? 23 wasn't it?

I think we were the first side to average 3 goals per game in the CL group stages?

I remember that run. We were so direct that team on the continent could not handle us.

Crouch was a big part of that run too!

I think the key word is team.

Yes the previous team had more talented players in a lot of positions but today we are a far better team.

One other comparison could be Harry "have a go, 2 points from 8 games" Redknapp V Mauricio "Philosophy" Pochettino.

Redknapp' team was more pleasing on the eye whilst MoPo's team is more efficient. MoPo's team this season just shades it for me because I don't get as many heart pulputations. MoPo is more honest and humble than Harry also lol. Great article.
