An interesting little bit of history between the clubs here and nice to see the tradition still being continued to this day.

The Loving Cup
posted on 11/1/16
30 such cups were commissioned in Stoke in the early thirties to be distributed to the clubs in the league of which there were 22. Then after a big mining disaster in Stoke with multiple fatalities Rangers played a benefit match for the families of the victims. Said cup was presented after the match and promises were undertaken to toast the monarch of the time at the behest of Stoke.

I think for me, I love the tradition of it all - the throwback to a time when clubs had a lot more respect for each other and the communities they served.
Until I watched this video, I didn't know about the cup and the link with Stoke City. It's like the story behind the Arsenal shares, a wonderful time when clubs chose to help each other. It was an abomination what Craig Whyte did with them!
I'm reading a biography just now about Bill Struth and it's so interesting the way he used Rangers to assist in meeting the costs of athletics clubs etc. He saw the part a club had to play and it's so sad what has been lost in reputation to the series of shysters we have had to endure. Even in Struth's time, it was great to see the respect and friendship that existed between the Old Firm and a lot of this would have continued even until the 80's etc when you see the esteem that, for example, Tommy Burns was held.
I have every respect for the tradition being kept in the video here and those who originally began the custom would, I am sure, be very pleased to see it continuing to be upheld.

Smid, DC
I just read about the that after I asked and fair enough, each club to their own, as long as it is not offensive I would never have an issue with whatever said club chooses to do

If I'm honest I think it's the name of the cup that makes it funny to me.
If it had a different name I might just think "oh right", but the fact it's called the Loving Cup just makes me laugh.

Souness sensed many were down going in to a big old firm game, so came in with a picture of the Queen and said "for those upset and whinging, that is what you are playing for today and represents the side you are on. Take it out on them on the pitch"
