Ha, gone back to that line this week then, it has worked well the last 18 months though

Glad the Sala deal has fallen through, he didn't seem to be that good, so it does seem we have money for the right player after bidding 3m for him.

3 million for him would seem a bit of a risk.

Whilst on one hand I applaud the club for having a "wage cap", or whatever they like to call it, it'll only benefit us if it were the same for all clubs. The system works well over here in the MLS and clubs can have a few "designated players" who earn more than the wage capped other squad players.

We are going to have to accept that the club is looking for younger players to move us forward. The only problem with that is, if we don't get promoted soon, they'll be poached by bigger clubs with the lure of more money and Premiership football.

It's a fine balance and one we have to get right. I've stated for many a season now that we have to get better players in for us to be in with a good chance of promotion. From one of the lists mentioned above, that hasn't happened apart from maybe Afobe.

We also now give out the message that any of our players are open to offers so wouldn't be surprised to see Dicko gone by late august if he proves his fitness, and wouldn't be that surprised if he pushes for it.

We have sold/lost 3 of our key players the last 6 months and have not replaced one of them as yet, that doesn't give the impression that we have much ambition.

that's the point though...by the tie our young and hungry policy pays dividends the players will be neither young or hungry

at the risk of being moaned at, that was one of Micks failings, too loyal to players that took us up and was too slow to change them...young and hungry will only get you so far...need a core of experienced battle hardened players as well

tatter
Even if we as a club were willing to break the structure for the right player Jackett wouldn't. Read "Family" the book about his promotion season at Millwall he was willing to let 1st team players go over a few hundred quid a week rather than have to deal with one player earning more than the rest of the squad.
.................................

must be wrong what i heard from a semi in the know source then - that danny was on £12k a week and doherty on less than £9k

Heartbreaking for the kid who had been making great progress. We can only hope it's a clean break with minimal complications.
