Swindon v ROVERS

Just a short thread tonight ready for tomorrow. I hope to be back from Chemo in time to keep my record going of not getting things right. ( joke Hound).

We make the long trip to Wiltshire to meet Swindon Town, who, after a poor start and a change of manager, have put together four wins on the trot.

The only interview I have to work with is one with Andy Williams who will be returning to his former club. " I have a lot of friends there although many have gone with the changes that have occurred this season. It will be good to catch up with friends.

Andy has put his lack of goals lately down to the general lack of confidence at the club, which was hopefully ended on Saturday with the draw with Millwall. When you are playing well and with confidence the chances come, when your not they tend not to. Hopefully we will get back to how we were tomorrow night.

The lads are confident that we havwe enough ability to get away from the bottom and then come back next season looking for the promotion we hoped for at the start of this season.

Darren Ferguson is hoping to get Fillipe Mattioni back till the end of the season but is not completely sure it will happen. Fillipe has played one Under 21's game and they may be reluctant at Goodison Park to release him. We shall wait and see. In the meantime Gary McKenzie has returned from his month at Notts County.

Has anyone seen the "highlights" yet?
I have,Swindon found it far too easy to get through and at our keeper.
I am surprised that no one has anything to say.
Some posters are very noticeably absent.

I cannot pretend that I was anxious to see the highlights and they consisted largely of Swindon vs Stuckmann.

Can anyone excuse that performance? There was a lack of application as Ferguson has admitted; it seemed lethargic, no energy, and you don't get anything when commitment is lacking. Stuckmann should qualify for a bonus, but there is little than can be said for most of the rest.

Would they played like that if Rob Jones had been on the pitch? I think he might have thumped a few of them.

I actually posted on vsc about the highlights Hound. My main concern is the lack of pace for a young player in McCullough and the fact that we as supporters even 3 to 5,000 miles away can see that the defence is what is letting us down.

We do not have a Corporal Jones type. We are giving away goals early on and being forced to play catch up every game.

If we can see this why cannot Darren Ferguson, he keeps saying that the defence is fine, I cannot understand that.

I also question if Butler is fit enough to be on the bench why is he not playing or has he said something out of turn?

Yankee, i saw your vsc post mate.
I also saw on there that Butler and Fergie have had a bust up and that is possibly why he isnt playing.
Don, can it be a coincidence that we don't have a Rob Jones on the pitch?
Butler is very loud on the pitch and i would guess that he is also very loud at training and in the changing room.
Wellens and Jones were the same and they have gone.
I can see where it is probably leading with Butler.
Could it be that Darren finds players with their own opinions undesirable?

With regards to the defence needing bolstering, i am glad that others are now agreeing with what i have been saying for some weeks now, that DF is very wrong not to be bringing players in.

If DF wants to have a promotion push next season with his own group of players then he needs to keep us up this season and the way things are going we will have a massive task on to do that.
Of the 26 points we have picked up under Fergie, 20 of them came in 10 games, which means that only 6 came in the other 10.
We now need about 10-12 further points to stay up from 13 games remaining.
Can we get them from a depleted squad lacking in confidence?

Having listened to Ferguson post match you have to admire his realism and honesty. He does not seek to find excuses either for his players or himself.

From where we look perhaps it could seem that he has ditched experienced players and we can only speculate as to why, but he has managed at this level enough to know what he wants and what he believes works.

Despite everything though you have to be flexible in management. Why does he not mention Butler in his interviews - why isn't he asked? For the greater good surely he should be re-instated.

And I see
"Aston Villa midfielder Riccardo Calder joins League One side Doncaster on loan for the rest of the season."

What I don't understand is why another left sided midfielder, why not a defender to bolster the back line.

Richard Calder?
Who is he and how old is he?
As you say, why not a defender.
FFS he has to bring Butler back into the side.

Just found him.
20 years old with no league games yet.
BUT he has played a few games in Scotland(wow) and has featured for Villas under 21 team.
Just what we need really.

Butler is a must until we find some one better

Clearly DF favours youth above all else.
