Sharapova

Well after calling a press conference today, with the media anticipating she will be announcing her retirement, she comes out with the bombshell that she has failed a drugs test

The substance she used for an illness (apparently),and that wasnt banned at the time, is banned now during the past year but she knowingly kept taking it

How damaging is this ?

Doesnt she have an assistant or someone to read her email? Considering how much she is worth.

One would have to assume so...which makes this slightly worrying really...

Her personal doctor should've certainly known & advised her...well before the ban date of Jan 1

It is a drug prescribed for people with heart conditions and thins the blood. As she has no known heart condition whether the substance was banned or not it was clearly used as a ped. Murray got it spot on saying how surprised he is that the number of players taking this particular drug are able to compete if they have the condition it is universally prescribed for. Cheat end of,with nice legs.

End of Sharapova in tennis? 2 year ban but she will appeal. She will be 31 so past her prime if she decides to make a comeback unless she has some sort of a result with an appeal.

She won't be out of her prime and I think she will benefit from Serena's absence and might even win French Open and if she plays up to age of 35 like Serena she might even win up to 8 or 9 Grand Slams. That will be an achievement in itself.
