Just announced on the radio.
Was he given long enough in the job?
Are we laughing about this?

"Schetve?"
This is reference to his put on Dutch accent in an interview a few years back

It's all down to the pronunciation, you just have to put a little more sheet into it, see?
I think I feel a little sorry for the bloke, he was doing a good job for the sheep last year until they had their usual post Christmas wobble [ ok Martin was injured] and he took the rap for it. Probably nothing to do with him at all.
So Newcastle have got the bloke sacked twice!
He got a raw deal with us to I suspect.
Anyway he can afford a toupee now and a new umbrella.

To be honest RFB; the sheep were a good fit for them. But as soon as he didn't categorically say he wouldn't be tempted by Newcastle and form started to dip; the writing was on the wall for him. It's funny because players, managers etc often get linked with clubs but you don't expect that of them.
I make no bones that overall I don't rate or like the bloke and that includes before, during and after his time with us. Even at Middlesboro the fans went through discontent with him, remember the guy running on the pitch to throw his season ticket at him?
Despite having media coaching by Max Clifford to make him more likable, it doesn't seem to have had the necessary effect. The umbrella, hair island, Daily Mail reading wally comes across (to me) as smarmy and very cringe worthy
He admitted that with us he tried to change too much too quickly and that didn't help. There is the factor that he started player recruitment and then ND started to get worried about FFP and pulled the rug a little. But he didn't do great with the players he picked up bar Reid, did he? We had smashed our previous wage structure which created discontent, the new guys didn't look good enough and to make things even work he tried to introduce zonal marking that made a previous tight defence, a bit rubbish.
If you look at his Derby time, he actually did best when working mainly with players that had previously been there. By the time he put his own stamp on it, things started to go a bit downhill.
I have zero sympathy, he would have done well financially out of this and Derby previously.

It worked a little too well, if anything; Newcastle are going down as fast as Clifford did, and probably for longer.

I think with Clifford it was the other way around! What a nasty manipulative piece of work he is!
