Cheltenham Day 4 - Gold Cup

Good Afternoon

It is the last day of the greatest horse racing meeting in the world and we potentially have a cracker of a championship race today.

It is all about the gold cup. The second biggest betting event in UK horse racing after the Grand National but a better and more prestigious race than the National.

Vautour was meant to be in this race and the owner was on the MOrning Line this morning bemoaning the fact that it wasn't in the Gold Cup after it's performance.

Now that would lead you to think it must have not been put in for a reason. That reason must be it did not show up well in training against its compatriot Djakadam. Djakadam is well fancied today but it is not the favourite.

Cue Card is the popular choice with local punters and will get a lot of support at the course today. The two Dons are mighty horses as well though with Don POli being well tipped in certain quarters and Don Cossack the favourite right now in the betting.

I like Smad Place though. Will likley run from the front and will run a strong race. Has had good preparation and at 9/1 represents good e/w value.

There are a number of other great races today but caution should be applied as this is usually known as bookies day. With little to separate favourites in at least 4 races the picking is tougher today.

I have went for a treble of:

1:30 Zubayr
3:30 Djakadam
4:50 Squouateur

I also have on an outsiders lucky 15

1:30 Who Dares Wins
2:10 Dicosimo
2:50 Fagan
3:30 Smad Place

The e/w tip I have been given for today from the same source who has had 3/3 on e/w places this week is Qualando in the 4:50

What are your tips people and anybody having a punt?

Been a bit up and down this week. But up about a tonne which isn't bad. Been an enjoyable week though.

Tooger

Always enjoy watching Cheltenham. It's less than 2 hours from me but never go. Hard to see horses, difficult to get a bet on and nigh on impossible to get near a pint. Happy to follow online from my desk with earphones listening to the commentary.

Prefer to go to places like Ludlow, Towcester, Bangor and Uttoxeter to watch live racing.
