That's the problem with relying on youth Cyp.

Most of our U21s are probably U18s that have been doing well at U18 level, but will be thrust into a losing U21s team and lose all confidence.

It will take years for us to have a steady conveyor belt, at which point the first team (if we keep having a negative net transfer spend, which is likely as we sell our best youngsters) will have regressed to the point where a season like this season will be deemed a success.

We will have to be really lucky and chance upon some stars all in one go for our current strategy to get us anywhere.

Agree Tam. That's why we shouldn't just rely on youth but incorporate them into a team containing seasoned pros. Unfortunately our current policy doesn't seem to recognise that we need a mixture of youth and more mature players, although I think Jenny commented about this recently.

When I see comments like "Wolves' first team had an average age of 20 or 21", I shudder.
I want Wolves to have an average age of around 25 and for all players to be in their prime. Teams with a decent blend of experience and good youths are what wins things!

Mason was not at the top of his game. Hasn't he spent most of the first part of the season at Cardiff on the bench?

If anything, Jackett has helped him settle in.

Mason turned up and started scoring goals.

Kenny dropped him for siggy for the next few months.

You can guarantee Mason is a little less off and questioning why he came to wolves.

This is why I saw last season as a success, our team was remarkably young and inexperienced and had no right to be picking up 78 points.

Mason came to Wolves for first team football and the £40k a week he was promised. Oh, wait!

Or 7th (our mode position) in the league as it is also known.

I think we had a better blend of youth and experience last season. Sako 26, Stearman 27, Ikeme 28, Golbourne 27, KMac 26, Edwards 28, Henry 25. They were the spine of our side with the youth thrown in around them.

This year we sold three of them, dropped one for a young loanee and one has sulked at times, looked nowhere near good enough and will be gone in the summer. It wouldn't surprise me to see any of Ikeme, Henry or Edwards forced out in the summer. Our transfer policy is to take a chance on players who are young and sell the older ones on higher wages. We will either get really lucky or it will catch up on us.

Point still stands, we finished level of points with 5th and 6th so you can read what you want into being a couple of goals shy over 46 games if you wish.

For a team so young and inexperienced was quite an achievement.
