Doing a Leicester -- in reverse

Given Leicester's against-all-odds title win, what do you think is the likelihood of the opposite happening, ie one of the big clubs getting relegated?

Chelsea gave it a good go this season, but were never in serious danger of going down.

Almost inconceivably, Leicester have managed to maintain their superb form all season long, and it has seen them win the league.

So is it that inconceivable that United/City/Arsenal/Chelsea/Spurs/Liverpool could somehow sustain the poor form that it would take to send them down? Or are they just too good and too financially powerful?

Which of the big clubs, if any, do you think could 'do a Leicester' -- in reverse? And which would you most like to see go down?

Arsenal are the least likely. Chelsea, City, even United are far more likely to implode.

Na, Arsenal would spend all season in the relegation zone, then finish 17th.

Chelsea tried their best but were still too good.

Remember, relegation candidates have three spots to aim for, not just one like Leicester.

Liverpool have had their "flirtation" with the bottom half under Woy. We're heading in the right direction now.

It will be one of the others.

If Leicester's title triumph is the "once in a generation" event, we've seen the reverse numerous times.

Leeds is the benchmark of recent years but don't forget the early 70s when the mighty Manchester United were relegated to the 2nd tier.

Goes to show no club is immune to this possiblity.

Arsenal next for transition....!!!???

Will Spurs suffer an adverse reaction to their traumatic failure as opposed to kicking on????

That's the beauty of the game.

Why is this tagged to the AFC Telephoneford board?Tthey're way too big a club to go down

If Arsenal tried to get relegated, they'd probably bottle it and finish fourth.

No, too good. For a big club to go down it takes a period of malaise and mismagement, where rot sets in and eats them up - Villa being a good example. Newcastle have spent about the second or third most in the country over the last two years, but are close to relelagtion. I suppose the nearest thing to what you're talking about could be the West Ham side of the early '00's who everyone said was too good to go down, but down they went. There is no chance of the clubs you mention being relegated any time soon. With the exception of City they've all been in the PL some its inception.

Agree with this. When big clubs like Leeds, Villa and Newcastle have gone down, it's been a few seasons in the making. People were talking about Leeds being relegated on the first day of the 03-04 season.
