England v Russia

England XI: Hart, Walker, Cahill, Smalling, Rose; Alli, Dier, Rooney; Sterling, Kane, Lallana.

Russia XI: Akinfeev, Smolnikov, Ignashevich, Vasili Berezutski, Schennikov, Neustadter, Golovin, Smolov, Shatov, Kokorin, Dzjuba

I think now that Roy has chosen a more fluid formation, England should be able to win this. I will go for a 2-1 Win.

Predictions?

None of them had someone to aim for though because Kane was dropping wide and deep, which wasn't needed at all.

I agree but maybe that was the brief he was given or it just wasn't his day.

Oh, and Russia were poor. Very poor.

Look at France yesterday and Payet in particular. Playing through the lines, very intelligent use of the ball, using the runners ( and running himself) and of course with the star quality.

England has no one like that.

Trouble in the stadium now!

I'd agree with that TRC, I'm not sure we needed it if we had someone attacking the ball more in the box.

I mean Scholes in the deeper regista role which is what Rooney is being asked to do. Personally I'd prefer a diamond with 2 from Wilshere, Drinkwater (I know he ain't there), Henderson (he offers discipline and energy) or Rooney.

Rooney isn't sh-t in the role but equally I feel he gets a slightly easier ride because he simply isn't a midfielder. Everything he does is nearly and simple but ultimately you need far more.

Kane though was by far the worst player today, as Melton said he was trying too hard and not staying in position.

I like Kane as a player, but today he was woeful. He was poor in the Portugal game, too (although he was out of his position). We were genuinely unlucky today, but fragility at the back cost us once and could have been our downfall on a few occasions. What really gets my goat is that we didn't punish a truly dreadful Russian side. They were abysmal and we should really have won.

Anyhow i have spilled tonnes of e-ink on Rooney so nothing new to say really.

Roy needs to make better use of his subs.

I think the Wales game has 1-1 written all over it. Hope i am wrong.

Me too, but luckily a win against Slovakia should be enough.

I make that 2 wins for England under Hodgson in 2 tournaments and 1st game in this tournament.
