The fact is Rooney is England's most competent player, and I generally think if Rooney plays well, so do England. With him on the pitch England had a foothold in the Russian final third, why take him off? The first rule of Tournament football is win your first game, Hodgson should know this. If he wanted to rest him, then do that in the third game, not at the beginning when there is no need, Rooney wasnt even tired

"Sterling was a great outlet, his passes were a little off but he was englands brightest attacker."
I thought he was our worst player, constantly lost possession. The space was there to exploit in behind

The way I see it players doing a lot, with a poor output, is better than players doing nothing at all.
Every time he beat a man players were on the far side of the box. No one came short to link up.

far from a utd (or even rooney fan) but he was a class above everyone else on the pitch.
we have a lot of decent grafters and runners, but they all seem to lack composure/decision-making. Rooney looked like he was playing a different game to the rest.

watching ITV now - Joe Hart - we deserved to win, the pundits seem to agree. Again not sure what happens when up against a better team.

no kaiser - time on the ball, seemed to know what he wanted to do, making other players look better - a class above the rest of the team

I thought he was completely anonymous and irrelevant the entire match zin.
almost no positives
kane was crap but he's a player who can score from nothing so I'd always leave him on

Having watched all four games so far, that was the worst of the lot. How Sterling is worth the amount that City paid for him, I have no idea. The only thing he did all the game was to stop Rose from getting forward.
The one time Rose did get forward was Englands best chance...
The equaliser was just sloppy defending.
To sum up, England were carp, as were Russia...
Very disappointed...
