The Henry debate...

Further example of an egomaniac dictator in charge, or a fair and reasonable request?

It seems as if Thierry Henry will leave his role as coach of the under 18s after Wenger demanded he leave Sky and concentrate on the role full time.

Many see this as Wenger not wanting people in the club who question his authority. He doesn't want to be overshadowed by a much loved club legend.

Others see it is a fair game, the coach should be fully committed to his role. We also shouldn't have members of the staff publicly digging out senior squad players on such a forum.

Henry's role is with the under 18s, under former Arsenal academy player Kwame Ampadu. Ampadu is newly appointed in the role. It has not been a full time role for Henry up to now. Tony Adams has also been rumoured to be assisting Ampadu.

Under 18s tend to play Saturday mornings, although it is possible for midweek games (both morning and evening).
Henry tends to be involved with Sunday games when it comes to Sky, but with Friday evening, early Saturday afternoon, and Monday evening games it cannot be guaranteed Henry will not be required for these.

Henry was not coaching the first team when that would be an issue.

And if that was such a problem why have we employed him for the last 2 years?

I guess they tried it, and found it to be a problem. I don't know, I'm guessing here - and saying it sounds fairly reasonable.

If we really want to know what's happened, I expect it'll be in someone's book at some point.

We can only speculate. I think it may have something to do with Henry/Rio spontaneously laughing at Giroud's performances at the Euros. Henry's punditry is liked in England, hence the huge money he is earning for it, and I believe his opinion is even more respected in France. Arsene Wenger's opinion however is on the slide, especially after losing the title to Renieri who had less money than Wenger has ever had. I think when your star is on the wane, petty jealousies emerge. I think Wenger is threatened by Henry's presence at the club.

And Henry's role is not something that should be upto Wenger anyway. The youth system is run by Andries Jonker. He works for Ivan Gazidis. Not Arsene Wenger.

Sounds like it'll take up an entire chapter.

So you think this is about petty jealously?

I expect Wenger will push Andries Jonker out soon as well.

When newspapers constantly speculate that Henry is being lined up to takeover......yes.

Is it really though?

He is awful at it. I mean, even as an Arsenal fan I can't stand him when he is doing punditry.

Sky do a lot of research on viewing figures etc. £4m a year is not the kind of money you offer without a lot of justification.

We may not like it cause a lot of us are very good at analysing the games ourselves. But I doubt the majority of the watchers have the sort of interest ja606 posters do.

He's already on his way out.

Our U18s and U16s haven't kept up with improving academies at other clubs.

There's a staff clear out underway.

If my wife was part of the viewing study "Ooo Titi" would be on double that.

takeover? you do have a vivid imagination J99

Henry can't even coach the under 18s yet, by the time Henry is ready to take over Arsenal Wenger will be long gone, and I'm sure Wenger wouldn't mind one of his own doing so.
