Optimism and the Wizard of Oz

Well, back in the land of the bogans, drongos and sheila's and already I am missing football being on at a decent hour.

The Brighton game will be on at 4:45am for Fox sake...at least the Villa game can be on a Sunday night at 10pm.

It's about that time of the year when I post my usual assessment of the squad and where we are lacking. This is bloody hard this year as Monty is playing loads of our youngsters...and they aren't playing too bad.

So, I am going to do a squad list as we stand now, if we played a 4-3-3, which from reports, seems to be most accurate.

DM / CM I am just going to lump options together...this will also include the two latest rumours re Henderson and the new Ronaldo!

G: De Vries, Henderson (*), Evtimov (L)

LB: Pinillos (I), Lacovitti, Fox (L to sell)
CB: Mills, Hobbs, Mancienne, Lam, Worral, Ahmedodzic (L)
RB: Lichaj, Gabriel

DM / CM: Lansbury, Vaughan, Cohen, Grant, Cash, Yates (L)

LWF: Osborn, Ward
RWF: Burke, Pereira (*), Paterson
FWD: Assombalonga, Vellios, Veldwijk, Blackstock (L to sell), Fryatt (I to sell), Walker (L)

IF the two new lads come in then we aren't far off in my opinion. All we have really paid out for is Vellios and player wages. Lam was on a free, Henderson wouldn't cost a lot and the new lad on loan is probably less than 10k.

With Burke, Reid and Wilson of the payroll then that would surely cover wages.

What positions does everyone else think we need? An out and DM, an AM...and a forward (someone like Grigg) would do for me.

You beat me to it sph, but it is worth repeating (and I think I will be copying and pasting this to other posts).

Alex Iacovitti's family name begins with an upper-case I, not an L (either upper or lower-case), and is pronounced Yacovitti.

Just as people getting our club name wrong is lazy and disrespectful, so it is with an individual's name. Please get it right.

Grammar police are out in force this morning!!!

I'm more offended by anyone suggesting our one and only goal machine Britt Assombalonga is played anywhere but down the middle. All other pretenders to his throne can wait their turn and play wide of him if need be in any 433 formation

lacovitti is going to be the breakthrough player this season, I reckon. I think Fox may find himself out in the cold if he doesn't carry on the reasonable form of the Spring.

He is he most powerful striker at the club by miles so he needs to be straight down the middle where he can win the battles against the opposition defence like he did notably in the derbies the other year. If Forest can get Britt back to that kind of form with Vellios/Ward or Burke (or even Veldwijk?...) playing off him, it should be a million miles more entertaining than last season at the very least.

I think my aim for this season is to break back into he top ten. Don't think there is enough depth to the squad to aim higher unless the major players stay injury free...

Some kind of forward momentum would be most welcome. It isn't looking too cohesive behind the scenes at the moment so that is bound to be a drawback. Just what are they playing at over the safety certificate?...

Lacovitti it is then. Let's hope his Italian family don't go to war with mine. Gomorrah!!!!

After four consecutive years of slide, merely to finish higher than we did last season will count as progress. The other run we need to halt is that of managers not lasting a season.

The two go hand-in-hand I think

Wholehearted agree with that. An end to the flying by the seat of our pants attitude that seems to have pervaded the club for more than a few years would be very refreshing.
