Probably.
Some people report no issues, but I've known that without a VPN some really struggle.
VPNs slow your speed, but guarantee you can connect.

strett really interested, but a lot of money for a pensioner to out lay, what guarantees are there that I will get a better picture to watch my footy , thats what is all about for me

Really useful thread. Bought a Kodi box recently and have used it for films but watching the Spurs games was the main purpose. Interested in the comments about vpn. Can someone explain what's required for this and how you set it up?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
OK.
A VPN is required, depending on geographic location in order to watch what you want.
Some ISPs, SKY in particular need to protect their investments, so they have software that tracks the sites which host/stream the football or films. They then block you from accessing that site.
A VPN hides what site you are visiting, so SKY are only aware of you accessing the VPN server. You can also access sites that are blocked from UK based servers.
There are many free ones all you need to do is go onto your pc or mobile device, search for VPNs and subscribe to the one you like.
On the VPN host's site will be instructions how to download the software onto your device; that device can be your mobile, pc and/or Android device (Kodi box)
You can then access the web on your Kodi box, download the VPN software and hey-presto. There are options on some where you can even choose the location of the server you want to connect to.
This is also good if you want to buy goods, say from non-UK Amazon, that they can't sell in the UK due to laws/restrictions.
Have fun

Im with virgin would I have the same problem
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's generally not much of an issue on Virgin. Generally with streaming it's always gonna fall short of a proper sky package to a lesser or greater extent. However if expectations are tempered, then some folk find it really good. Remember most of us have spent much of our lives watching football on low resolution CRT tellys.

Give it a go without a VPN.
There are some great free VPNs, limited for the deviants out there, but fantastic for watching streamed sports. Cyber Ghost is a popular one.

Remember, to help you sleep at night, it is not illegal.
The person who is steaming the media is being naughty, but it is not illegal to watch streamed content.

"to help you sleep at night, it is not illegal"
But just to disrupt your sleep a little, taking something that you should pay for for nothing is known as stealing.

Completely agree and the copyright owner (SKY in this instance) should do more to stop the deviants uploading their material onto the internet. They are the ones that are stealing.
SKY are well aware that if something is on the internet it is completely legal to watch it. They are well aware that you, the viewer are not breaking any law, whatsoever.
Recording it is a different matter.

What I was trying to say is that there's a difference between what the law says is stealing and what we all know is stealing.
Sure you may not be stealing in a legal sense, but you're still stealing in any normal sense by consuming something without paying for it.

Ergo, it's not stealing; it's watching.

If you think taking something without paying for it isn't stealing, that's up to you.

What is being taken?
Material is being viewed, not recorded.
The European Court of Justice agrees with me.
