Just read on the BBC news site some black guy who used to play for us has turned down the MBE for his services to "Kick Racism Out of Football"
Personally I have never heard of the guy- no disrespect- so he is no Johnny Barnes, he obviously cares about racist attitudes towards black footballers so why not accept the award and the publicity that goes with it??
OK he has raised his profile among his own community and probably the left wing loony brigade, but he will have made the community he is trying to appeal to, to drive out racism and unite with black players more wary of him.
Sport should unite and not divide, refusing the MBE will close doors rather than open them. Personally I would be reluctant to sit down or associate with someone who i thought was a radical as I would always be wary of them playing the racism card if you disagreed with their point of view. Thank god we have moved away from Tony Blairs attack dog racism seekers, but after the Brexit campaign the media seems very keen on labeling people as racist.
I think he should have accepted it and the positive publicity would open doors, now i think he will be seen by many as a radical to be avoided.
Football and ending racism in football should be positive, not negative.

If I felt so badly about this country's colonial past as some clearly do here despite earning their living and bringing up families here i would leave .
Sadly this country is riddled with those who love nothing more than slagging it off. The Jewish have exposed what is going on here and a man that shared platforms with terrorist sympathisers and another who represented them are leaders of labour and mayor of London.
I have not enslaved anyone and neither had any of my family for as far back as I can see. If you want to cry crocodile tears like red Ken living stone about centuries old atrocities go ahead. I suppose kids working for a pittance in Asia or former farm workers in Zimbabwe now starving are my forefathers fault too.

There's more publicity in turning down the award than accepting it. Hundreds of awards are handed out and 95% of them never get a mention...
Sorry to be cynical but to be rewarded for having a positive impact on an important issue is to be welcomed not rejected on the grounds he is stating. #SelfPromotion

History had consequences for everyone. Our present is a direct consequence of our history. People who try to ignore history are escapists running from something they an never get away from and end up becoming bitter and arrogant.
The protest is not about slavery anyway. All the Donald Trump wannabes on here are just focussing on slavery. This is a protest against present and current inequalities as well. The scale is still tipped against people of colour and these protests that irk you so will continue until the colour of a man's skin is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes.
This is why the various coloured people's associations irk these guys and are labelled racist even on this thread. Because they are a reminder of something they'd rather not be reminded about. Slavery based on skin colour is an isolated event, not a historical event per se because until Europe and America in the last few hundred years, slavery was a result of conquest, had nought to do with skin colour. If you conquer then you enslave. Any one could have been a slave and anyone could have been a slave master. In more recent times, slavery was exclusively for black people SBD until today they suffer disadvantage because of skin colour. That makes a difference.
