Bailly

So smooth on the ball.

So hard in the tackle

So confident, he takes risks but is always in control

This is the type of player I thought Smalling would be, but when I say Smalling isn't comfortable on the ball, I get told he is, Bailly is what you would call comfortable on the ball.

Always viewed Smalling as a combination of Vidic and Rio.

ie. Intelligent and aggressive defending.

He's number 1 on the team sheet for me, every day of the week.

He has shades of Thuram

He reminds me of Vidic.

Smalling is the number 1 cause of uncertainty in the defence

The only problem with that is he isn't as good as either of them were.

Bailly is the best bit of business we've done this window!! Looks to have everything needed to be one of the best in the league.

HOWEVER, HE HAS NOT YET BEEN TESTED IN THE LEAGUE. Lets not blow our loads too soon, eh...

We saw against Leicester, he will go into stupid challenges and concede free kicks in dangerous areas. The kind that cost you big time. These are things that can be coached out of him, I hope. The natural attributes he has are the things you can't teach.

I really hope he can form a nice partnership with Smalling, though I like the balance Blind provides.

Getting a proven top European goalscorer who has banged in goals in near every top European league for free on a 2 year deal is not your best bit of business according to you?

Spending £30m on a young and raw CB with still much to learn in his game and has 1 solid game is your best bit of business according to you?

I don't think so.

I've seen Bailly play a handful of games in Spain including that game against Liverpool and the first thing I said when I saw him was this guy is custom-built for the PL.

Time will tell if he'll fulfill that potential and as I mentioned above, he definitely has flaws that will need rectifying...

However, if think signing at 35 year old (will be 35 in a couple of months) on a one-year deal is gonna be the best business we've done this summer, then it only exposes your extreme short-sightedness... Don't worry though, you're in good company

That doesn't mean he is worth £30m though does it. Albeit, he probably will under Mourinho, he will look like he will be, but not right now no matter what you say. You can't judge a 22 year old CB with years to go until his prime whether he is going to be worth the money after 1 game or even a season. Mourinho teaches discipline which is the best thing for him. But a £30m star defender should perform very consistently over numerous seasons for me.

No. It's not "gonna be" the best bit of business, it is the best bit of business United have done this window. Your thinking too much about the future, which you can't predict, Bailley might good this season then flop and be sold. So Ibra might have one terrific season this year and leave/retire. So Ibra will class as the better one. Even now he does.

Nothing to do with short-sightedness. For any team that wants to win the league, they buy the best players available, like top managers do, they don't "build for the future". You buy the best you can get there and then, which Mourinho has done, on numerous occasions.

The only 2 significant signings I've seen Mourinho ever make that is "building for the future" is with Bailley and Zouma. All the rest are either proven, have a fast amount of experience in one/numerous top leagues or are playing at the top of their game. Ibra is all 3 of them things, even at 34/35 now, he still has made a very promising start to his United career.

Same with all the others. Diego Costa, proven goalscorer in Spain. Henrikh Mkhitiryan, proven assist-maker in Germany. Ibra, as I've explained. Fabregas, proven top midfielder in both England and Spain. Matic proved himself in Portugal and Interntionally.

he has signed proven, top class players. That's what the best managers do. You buy the best there is to get. You buy the best players you can get before you build, like he has a track record of doing.

I don't even know where to begin with this

Let's revisit this at the end of the season (assuming we're both still around)

Bailley isn't United's best signing THIS SUMMER. Could turn out to be their best defender in years to come, but at this present moment in time, Zlatan on a free is better than an inexperienced, raw CB at £30m.
