Joe Root scored 274 runs at 54.80.
Sarfraz scored 300 runs at 60.00
More runs, better average and he kept wicket too.
No brainer really.
How come Joe Root won man of the series?

Joe root took one more catch and took a wicket through bowling plus he was on the winning team by a substantial margin

Joe Root was on the winning team. 9 times out of 10 man of the series would be given to the player that was on the winning team.

Let's be honest, being on the winning team shouldn't really come into it. There wasn't much difference in the runs scored or average. Sarfraz had to keep wicket for 50 overs as well as scoring more runs. Still a no brainer.

No, Joe was the one who contributed most to ENGLAND winning the series. Therefore he is man of the series. Doesn't matter how many Sarfraz scored he will finished on the losing side. No brainer

Best player of the series should be man of the series. It's quite simple really. Its not called man of the team that won the series

I'd have called it neck and neck. Let them share it. Pakistan's bowling didn't give their wicket keeper the chances to take many catches. Sarfraz made a far bigger contribution to his team than Root did .

But they don't, so it's immaterial. England won it four one so it would have seemed barking to me if they had given it to a Pakistan player

Should have gone to the best player of the series regardless if his team won or not.
