We need a CB, especially if Smalling joins the 'I h8 Jose' club and while we'd all like Godin or Varane, a more realistic option would be Van Dijk at Southampton.
The guy is very good and is one of the top defenders in the PL right now. He was excellent against City and snuffed out a lot of their attacks.
Saints are a selling club and it would be good to bring in Van Dijk this January as I think Bailly is off to the ACON. Is that this winter?
Anyone else keen on VVD?

Good price considering the amount the likes of Mangala and Otamendi cost, VVD is 25, can clearly handle the PL, he'd be a terrific signing IMO.

I could see us going for him to partner Matip.
We love a Saint, and while Lovren is much improved in the last year, he's probably the weakest member of our back 4 with Milner looking so good at left back.

30m is extremely cheap for the best cb in the league. He has been superb for 2 seasons in the EPL. Very underrated player. Glad he is getting recignition now.Definately a Bayern/Madid/Barca quality player..

Ehm no. Based on what exactly? Statistics show Virgil van Dijk to be one of the best cb's in Europe. he earned more motm than Tobvy, Virgil won two player of the years and was in team of the season. There was only one cb in Thiago who had better stats. On top of that, this season Virgil is even better, hoswcasing his influence as a leader.
