change of heart!

After our glorious 3-1 win against Celtic behind closed doors,i can now see what our leaders meant by a top 4 slot come the end of next season,to beat the mighty Celts with a team that we have simply just cobbled together can only mean one thing,,but what is it?

Personally I'm feeling positive at the moment, sure we haven't started well, but the performance against Everton was strong, as was that 7 minutes against Sheff Wed, and now we've apparently toppled the mighty hoops in unknown circumstances. The signings are good, there's genuine competition for places, especially in midfield, and I'm looking forward to the Fulham game.

If we lose then you can sack all that I just said off, but until then positivity should be the dish of the day.

I agree with what you just said and i think we do have a good squad on paper, i just can't see Keane as a winner with whatever squad he had at he's disposal.

I was interested to hear Yakubu's comments when he signed that if it wasn't for Kean he wouldn't have come, and certainly Kean's past with Dann had some sway in him moving here. I think he has shown some strength in the transfer market, and must have done a decent job of portraying the club's vision to Yak. If only that translated over to performances on the pitch.

I think Kean should be given a bit more of a chance, the performances at the end of last season began to turn and there's been glimpses this season that suggest with a competitive team (which we now have) we could do alright. If we carry on the same over the next few games then something must be done, but I've not fully given up on Kean yet.

I would say the next 2 games we have 2 pick something up or it really is time to look elsewere. Some people are born winners others have the talent but stiil aren't quite good enough. Yes i think he did ok in the transfer market but a good workman dosn't blame his tools and they are now his tools. So no more excuses.

Fair point, I neglected the thought that regardless of whether it improves under Kean there's nothing to say someone else of higher repute could still be doing better than Kean at his best, and that is quite a likely scenario at the end of the day.

Some managers just seem to come into a club and instantly make a difference even with the same players, Kean did that but in the wrong way last season. He has now got a decent squad in my opinion but for any other chairman/board bar venky's he really would have been out the door by now. I hope he is a success for obvious reasons but i am just not sure he has what it takes.

Oooijer, 2 wins in 17 league games!

I think I may tickle some Celtic bellys!

Don't you think that sounded scripted? Yakubu and Dann said pretty much the same thing, which I'd say is pretty unusual. When players join a new club they generally talk about the club in general, 90% of what Yakubu and Dann said was some worshipful homage to Kean. As they'd probably never heard of him until last December and his managerial record so far is awful, what were they so impressed with? I reckon Venkys (or their advisors) had a word in their ear that Kean needs backing and they could help do that.

Can't really argue with your second paragraph. My heart has given up on him but my head says why sack someone 3 games into a season when you've just given him the summer budget to spend. I wouldn't argue with a few more games at least.

B&W, nail on head. Any time someone points that out they are instantly accused of saying Venky's are witches but it's painfully obvious to me that it's scripted. Look at Jason Roberts for one example with most of his recent interviews. We all know this sort of thing goes on in the politically fuelled modern day game, it was just nice when it didn't occur at our club so much.

Again a good point, I hadn't really considered the politics of it all. Though Dann and Kean have worked together at Coventry in the past which may have been a factor. I think I just want to see the best in Kean, for the good of the club and himself, and those comments seemed positive, but as you have pointed out there may well be more to it than I recognised.
