THE Mourinho vs LVG thread

Please post all of your tedious, inane, irrelevant, vainglorious, statistic-twisting, hyperbolic, petty, self-importising arguments on this thread!

Seriously, isn't it time we moved past this? We had it with Moyes vs LVG more than 24 months ago, and exactly the same desperate point-scoring, which more often than not propagates predictable and even more tedious ad hominem attacks, can still be found on every other thread on what is otherwise quite clearly ja606's most excellent board.

It's beyond boring, perfectly moot, and shouldn't be derailing completely unrelated, fresh and interesting threads.

We've got plenty to comment on and debate right now, as is evidenced by the number of quality articles popping up daily, so could we pleaseeeeee either knock this on the head now, or at the very least keep it to relevant threads, so those of us who don't give a feck about an argument we've read in all of its near infinitude of possible forms a million times over until our eyes have bled (yes, I am allowed to post hyperbolic comments in my own article ) can give it a wide birth.

EDIT: Comments pointing fingers at individuals will be deleted. WUMs will be flayed alive with a rusty teaspoon.

Moyes was unlucky that he managed in a difficult premier league season with great competition whereas both of vgs seasons were poorer leagues. And vg was given way way more backing than moyes

Wahl, Robb said Moyes was to United what Syria is to holiday destinations.

That's fine, moyes still did a much better job than vg.

Moyes got man Utd through to the cl quarters, vg group stage ko

Like I said moyes picked the worst year to take over from Ferguson. Man city got a new manager and yaya toure had his best ever season. We had Mourinho back and improved a lot on our previous season. Liverpool and Everton - best ever pl seasons bar none. Bar none. Arsenal even had a better attempt at the title than usual and were really good first half of the season. If moyes had taken over just one year later in the 14-15 season, he'd have come top 4 easily. Just like so often in life, if you get your timing off just a little, the difference is huge. man Utd fans also need to remember that moyes was allowed to sign two players and only one in the summer before the season. He wasn't given any support by the board like vg was.

As far as I'm aware, I don't think Moyes has ever really spoken of a lack of support from the board.

My personal impression was that he was guilty of wishful thinking, considering he was inheriting a title-winning squad that needed very little work, and naive in thinking he'd retain the board's backing even if things dropped off.

He probably didn't imagined they'd fall off a cliff though. 25-points is a massive drop. Off-hand I can't think of any other title-winning manager inept enough to equal that. Ranieri's doing his best, but even then, it's Leicester.

It's bronly, the board didn't back him as well as they could have. He wanted thiago and Cesc Fabregas that first summer for example and didn't get neither and ended up with Fellaini on the last day of the window. Of course when he doesnt make the signings he's going to say I'm happy to stick with the same squad but he definitely wanted to add a few players who he didn't get.

however you are probably right in saying that he still expected more from the squad than he got, but how could have have seen rvp, Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra all declining in that same season coming? it was just the worst time possible for him to come in in that way too.

I'm not talking about back then. What I meant is that I'm sure he'll have been asked about those days in retrospect in interviews since, but if he's complained I certainly haven't heard it.

Maybe he still expects United to come begging one day.

i mean Moyes is a classy guy, doesn't surprise me he hasn't said anything. in the end of the day, he wanted fabregas and thiago, he didn't get either. vg wanted falcao and di maria first season, he got both and wasted both completely.

Getting pretty hard to admit we wouldn't be doing better under LVG.

he didn't want Thiago... he didn't think he would handle the physical side and dropped any interest

he's already said that if he didn't think he was getting to fulfil his long term contract he would have changed things sooner... which is damning on himself... no sense of urgency, dithered... nobody to blame but himself

he broke our transfer record twice in one season... for 2 players we didn't really need
