The top 6 teams??????

Were has this term come from, I remember the days of the top 4, which would go through to the CL and compete for the biggest competition in Europe.

But now we have the top 6, now forgive me for being a bit daft, but when Liverpool was sitting 5th and 6th we were mid table according to other clubs, so why has this changed!

Do 6 teams qualify for the CL?
If you're 5th or even as far down as 6th, are you then considered to be in the chase for the league!

To be honest im old school, i would say, top 4 are pushing for the league and Cl qualification, and the rest are still trying to build and bridge the gap to the big boys.

Put it this way, we finished 8th last season and i didnt then start thinking oh, we're, not a poor mid table team, we must now be part of the top 8 clubs!

I also think the current top 4 will dominate for years to come, you know how hard it is to break into the top 4 when your playing thursday sunday every week!

Top 7

The top six are all relatively close to each other and then there's a huge gap back to Everton in 7th. I'd say if united were 10 points behind city it would be a top five.

Doesn't matter anyway, so long as we finish in the top four all is well.

The 'top 4' became the 'top 5' a few years ago when Liverpool missed out on the CL.

This has only become the 'top 6' this season. Pretty much because they are so far away from the rest of the teams.

It's only been properly used this season to refer to the current top 6 who are all well ahead of the rest of the league, and all top 4 contenders, and just so happen to be the biggest 6 teams in the league based on size and performance and have been for what, at least 7-8 years by a clear distance.

probably to do with the top 6 fighting for the top 4 places.

So a pretty obvious question to ask then - or was it merely rhetorical ?

What a silly question to ask when it's clear the top 6 teams are miles ahead of the others, all fighting for a top 4 finish.

Get a grip!
