Who knew that Alan Shearer could make sense

Not me certainly.

But this article on Zlatan was moderately interesting I thought, two nuggets I picked out:

1) Although the word "statuesque" is often used as a way of insulting the man's perceived lack of movement on the pitch, on average he covers as much ground in the PL as Sanchez and Lukaku

2) His goals to shots ratio (17%) lags the very best in Europe, but isn't a million miles behind, say, Lewandowski (20%) or Messi (23%)

24 goals in 37 games - that's roughly 2 in 3 for the mathematicians here.

Zlatan we salute you.

Don't get the criticism for Shearer as a pundit. He seems to make sense most of the time and has moulded himself into one of the better pundits out there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
to be fair he has improved a hell of a lot, when he first started he almost seemed proud of his ignorance of foreign players/teams, and did nothing but speak in empty cliches, but he has clearly put in the hours to educate himself and develop his analysis.

couldn't resist the cheap shot though.

He may not be the most insightful and probably still doesn't have as much of a clue about foreign players as other pundits. What he does is talk sense and I find I agree with him on near enough most footballing matters.

Zlatan was made for PL. if only, we had signed him around 26/27

We should and probably could have. Instead we went for the likes of Berba

the two supposed nuggets you've picked out are stats that shearer has quoted, how insightful is that really? haven't read the article but you don't need to be a brilliant mind to know how good zlatan has been this year for us

well, would you have guessed that zlatan covers as much ground each game as alexis?

and given the stick he repeatedly gets on here for missing sitters, would you have guessed that his scoring rate is reasonably close to lewandowski's?

no, your'e right, it's a stats issue rather than shearer's insight, but you still need someone to pick out the interesting/illuminating stats rather than the uninformative.tedious ones (hafi take note)

Tbh even I wouldn't have guessed that and I have probably spent more time defending Zlatan from criticism than anyone.

This actually doesn't surprise me. I have never accepted the accusation that Ibra is especially wasteful....He isn't. But he sure has taken a lot of stick for it from United fans this season. Just a couple of weeks ago, some brainless specimen on here called him "Ibramissalot".

yh I get what your saying but I don't think i'll warm to shearer just yet, he's a boring sod, chance wise though a lot of fans just bandwagon on the he wastes loads of chances because the media says so, I mean cavani is a good example, he scores a ton load and people say he needs 3-4 chances for a goal , er no he doesn't, he's pretty lethal

Who called him "Ibramissalot"? I missed that one and I'm really curious to know who the culprit was.

i would hope no united fans have joined in with DJ

I can't remember tbh. I decided to ignore it at the time because I was fed up trying to convince people that Ibra is not that wasteful. If I get really bored I may go back and check...
