Or does it have to be older versions (most likely 2nd hand) that i would have to look for?
I have a JXD and that to be fair was doing a fantastic job, but the socket pin I plugged the charge into, was flimsy to say the least and has now fell off. And even though it has USB port, it does not charge up that way
Somebody told me they used their PSP, but they’re not sure the newer versions can be used?!
I’m currently saving for Florida for next year (paying for a family of 4) so I can’t justify an Nvidia Shield, so other than continuing on my mobile, which I fear will shorten it’s battery life, what is my best (cheap) option?
Can 'newer' PSPs play Emulated games?

Let me check but I am certain the first 3 models of the psp could run emulators, however the vita and the psp go cannot. That would mean second hand though. Does it have to be handheld?
If so then looking at a 2nd hand would be your best option.
Unless you just want old Nintendo games then the switch would also be a good viable option in the future as well as of course zelda and mario.
Of course you could also have a look at those "chinese" dedicated gaming devices that are basically just android os on cheap ass hardware with a controller already built in

Ok ive been out the psp loop for a while. They can all run emulators.
Just to clarify that is the PSP and NOT the PS Vita (easy to confuse the 2)

It looks like it'd have to be 2nd hand job. There's advice somewhere that a Vita can, but then in same thing it's saying not many games compatible.
looking at a 3000 series on Amazon.

Would it not be a relatively simple fix if it's just the power socket that's failed?

the guy at the PC/Tablet repair shop quoted 10.00 just to open it....which it definitely needs

Why not just open it yourself if it's useless now? The power socket is probably just some generic bit of equipment you could pick from eBay. Either that or do a brute force fix with a thin bit of wire if it's just the pin that has fallen out.
May as well try. Can be fun to take things apart. Or maybe I'm just saying that because it's my job.

You can on the vita but its probably more hassle than its worth and not so well supported and keeps getting wiped out by new firmware, so you're in the constant cycle of either having the emulators, or losing some functions on the system ever other week. But I loved the PSP as an emu machine.

Westy is it essential i buy a "Pandora's Battery and magic memory card" to make it all possible?

Mr Flash I would guess not. I think that was the early way of hacking it.....though I could be wrong. I'll do some checking and get back.

Yeh seems nowadays all you need to do is chuck a few files on the psp via usb.
