How would you teach somebody to take a penalty kick and why?

At least you've both got someone to play with.

Hit it hard. Hit it low.

Only missed one out of about twenty, hard and low to the left or right, no d!cking about with the run up or trying to fool the keeper, pick a side, run up and give it some.

Sure you've heard me tell you all before but I've actually scored a penalty against Joe Hart

As i looked down while placing the ball on the spot i'd raise my head as little as possible and give the mearest (and i mean MEAREST) look to the keepers left. Without fail every single keeper dived to their left as they watched my kick go to their right

Not quite 100% record though (23/24) as once i hit the post

This is how I did it. Split second look just after placing the ball, left or right usually to the left, then eyes down.
Run up and slot it low and controlled to the right. Worked most of the time. Would have worked better if my accuracy was as good as my ambition.

Blasting it rarely worked for me, I'd either miss or smash the crossbar.

For as long as I can remember, I've always gone with one step, side foot to the 'keepers right, aiming for just inside the post. I find that the natural swing of my leg from only taking the one step guides the ball almost exactly where I want it - either that or I just have impeccable technique! Doesn't require me to strike the ball too hard either and I don't have any recollection of ever missing one (unless you count powerleague, which isn't real football)

Forget Joe Hart. I once scored a hat trick against Kasper Schmeichel... albeit in a primary school game. We put 8 past him if I recall.

I was coached to pick my spot, strike the ball with my laces and hit it hard and low. I always envisaged the keepers right hand bottom corner being a team mate and hitting a hard pass to a team mate from 12 yards is easy.

When placing the ball i'd be eyeing the opposite corner and shape to go that way, which made it easier to wrap my foot around it to go the other way. I'd go the same way everytime in training and nine times out of 10 I'd score, the one would be when I've not hit it as cleanly as I'd like. If you hit the corners with pace the keeper has no chance of saving it.

So my advice would be pick your spot, give the keeper the eyes and hit it hard and low. You'll score.

If you open your body and shape to go to the right (keeper's left) you can easily change at the last second and hook it the other way. It's a hell of a lot harder to do that the other way around.
