Would Scottish Sports be better if Scotland

Talking with a Scottish mate today while watching the Celts. He reckons Scottish sports as a whole would benefit more if Scotland was independent. Citing Ireland as his example, he feels we have more going for us in all sports.

What's the opinion on here?

Miller, fewer natural 'street footballers' these days. Can't remember the last time I seen kids playing football on the street.

Can say irish footballer have tge GAA to compete against when most of of their actual Irish born players leave Ireland as young boys to go to England, the league of Ireland is pretty pants, nearly if not all Scottish born players do their development in Scotland.

Not true. You do get some dual players moving to England as kids but the competition is very strong and most pick one or the other by late teens, some long before then. Then there are the majority which is non dual players who simply prefer one sport over the other.

You are right about the LOI it is pants. And as I said earlier the infrastructure isn't there. Compare GAA infrastructure and that of Soccer and there is a massive difference. Also have a look at the difference in attendances for GAA and Soccer. The biggest Dublin Derby would probably bring in 6k at a push. Dublin Gaelic footballers regularly sell out Croke Park.

It's how our game is run in this country

A few years ago France looked at where they were going wrong and completely revamped their approach , the results were legendary , not that long ago Belgium did the same and followed the French model , what you see now with Belgian players is the results of that , we will soon be getting beat by Malta and the Faroe Islands

I think the problem with Scotland is the narrow-minded sectarianism which is accepted as just "normal".

I love the Gaelic, hurling more than the handball

The point I was making was that the Irish footballers that have Ireland well above scotland in the rankings don't learn their trade in Ireland, nearly all learn it in England and a few in Scotland so independence would have fk all effect on our footballers.

Sorry BB sugar high then sugar low has my temper all over the place.

When I lived in Ireland Henry Shefflin and DJ Carey ruled the roost, even a Hurling ingrate like me could marvel at them

I don't know if it's A Scottish thing but I there is a distinct lack of interest and particitation in sport from the younger generation. Public footy parks are always empty, golf clubs across the country are struggling due to falling numbers in members and look at snooker.? Same old faces at the cruicable again. Their even bringing back Jimmy White ffs. I don't know...when I was a kid you could play these sports and games no problems...now a days all these activities costs parents a lot of money and every single spare bit of park or grass has no ball game signs.
