Jose's Way

Last summer...

United Board : Can you get us Champions League football next season?

Jose : 100% sure.

United Board : We will require expansive football and a commitment to every competition.

Jose : 50%

If first Leicester and now Chelsea go on to win the PL will Jose be given some free rein to do things his way next season?

So no other top 6 side has dropped any points due to missed chances this season then?

...................

I am sure plenty have.

But not anywhere close to us.

The one game i saw of United missing numerous chances and deserving more was Stoke, since then Jose has been using that narrative constantly.

I also saw the Arsenal and Everton games and thought United were average, just Arsenal and Everton were even worse.

I've seen the most outrageous mental gymnastics from some united fans recently
____________

If by that you mean delusions then I agree...

For some bizarre reason, a lot of our fans seem to think that every missed chance should have been a goal and that means we deserved more points.

Even if we had taken all those chances, you still can't say that we would be higher in the league because you would have to account for all the chances missed by our rivals too - which no United fan ever does.

It's really just common sense!

In addition, many of our fans seem to have completely forgotten all the dour, painfully unexciting games we have had to endure this season - yet they vividly recall every good performance...and then say that we have played like that all season which is nonsense.

Jose likes to control the narrative. In our 3 nil loss to City last season he called the result fake because Ramires had a goal wrongly chalked off, ignoring the 5 world class saves Begovic made vs Aguero.

Same with the FA Cup game at Stamford Bridge, United had a positive opening 10 then faded, but Jose tried to pass the opening 10 as opening 30 to make it look like he had the game under control before the red, wereas realistically they were lucky to still be level at that point.

We have played expansive football 90% of the time.

absolute nonsense
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We've played defensively 3-4 times all season. At Anfield, Etihad and twice at the Bridge although one of those times was partly due to a red card.

Not saying the football has always been great because it obviously hasn't but it hasn't been defensive by any means.

Shiiit football or expansive football aside, the only thing stopping us being higher up the table is poor finishing.

We'd have won some of the games we've drawn with better finishing, regardless of whether we played well or shiiiit.

Our defense has been as good or better than Chelseas and Leicesters, but those sides made the absolute most out of almost all the chances they created.

Completely agree with this. We've created so many chances, it's the finishing that has put the mockers on a challenge for the title.

It's like horrible keeping has stopped City from challenging, too.

By contrast, Chelsea and Spurs have no glaring weakness in their teams atm, as much as it pains me to admit it.

There is a major difference between expansive and not being defensive, you've just given a perfect example to describe the mental gymnastics I referred to, thinking doing one thing means another.

Our last 2 draws were probably the least painful draws this season. It's most of the other draws were we should at least have won has killed lied our season. You can see against Swansea city we were not ourselves.
