DUFC 2 FFC 2

A pulsating game at Tannadice last night ended all square after United were twice ahead against a resilient Falkirk team.

To be honest it was actually quite an entertaining game that I'm sure any neutrals watching enjoyed. There was a good ebb and flow to it and both teams had spells on the ascendency.

United started well and thoroughly deserved the lead when it came after quarter of an hour, a flick on from Mikkelsen evading the defender and Murray ran through and slammed home into the bottom corner. The Terrors had their tails up and were pushing for a second but then mid-way through the half the whole momentum of the game changed. Wato Kuate slipped (and continued to slip through the first half, as did many of our players - the decision to heavily water the park was a terrible one) and Falkirk broke away and finished well to pull level.

For the rest of the half United were poor, and were relieved when the half time whistle came. Falkirk looked to continue in the second where they ended the first half, but United took the lead again against the run of play. The ball was fed to Spittal who slammed home across the keeper. After going around 2 years without a goal that's now 3 in 3 for Blair.

Sadly the lead was not to last, with Falkirk scoring direct from a freekick. I thought the keeper was at fault as it certainly wasn't in the top corner. Bell didn't move his feet properly and made a mess of it to be frank.

Both teams had chances to win the game, Falkirk having a goal chopped off for offside, but in the end we had to settle for a draw (or a point as the Falkirk boy said post-match). It's all to play for next week.

If I'm honest I think we had to win last night. Given our away form and the results through there, I can't see us winning the game. I think they are ultimately a better team than us and they certainly have more depth to their squad. I'll keep hoping for the best but I'm preparing for the worst.

Players - pass marks to Durnan, Spittal and Murray. I thought the keeper could have done better throughout, Robson didn't have a great game, Kuate let his head go down after his slip and Willo was in and out of the game. Big Mikkelsen lacked service. Andreu had one of his games where he may as well have sat next to me in the stand. A special mention to Dillon though who was beyond terrible and looked like a player who hadn't kicked a ball all season. Fingers crossed Murdoch makes a miracle recovery for Friday as he's been very good since his move to right back.

200 tickets left for the United end on Friday.

Not sure how many we were given to start with.

Don't think you were harsh enough on Robson. He was absolutely diabolical. One of the worst performances I've seen by a United player - simply did not look like a footballer. Did literally nothing right at all all game. Edge had to play centre-back and left-back to cover for him, leading to him playing poorly.
Dillon was absolutely terrible at giving the ball away but defensively didn't seem that bad, particularly in the second half. Flood was poor until Kuate went off, then really stepped up. Having Telfer in midfield to venture forward certainly helped.

Poor from Bell at the second goal, but he's been fairly solid all season - the Arbroath game was the last howler I remember from him.

Murray was excellent but too greedy, Durnan pretty solid and much like you in the last game, I'm left wondering why Spittal has only chosen now to remember he's a footballer.
