We've seen the very best of people over the past few days, naturally the emergency services get their plaudits, but taxi drivers offering free rides and coffee shops making free brews.
After an odd sort of truce, which Jesse Lingaard has probably just about ended. I think it's more important to praise those for the positive way they have conducted themselves, look no further than Juan Mata.
Lots of people haven't been keen on the idea of linking last nights game to the tragic events of Monday night, for me, as a football fan and a Mancunian it felt quite natural. And for the large part those on both sides have treated it with dutiful dignity and respect. Saw some comments from a red who went away along the lines of "how can we be posting photos of us having a good time with what has happened back home" - business as usual is a phrase often reeled out, but this was always going to be an emotional night. Music and football are our two biggest exports in contemporary Manchester let's not forget.
Anyway, depending whether you think bringing a bit of silverware back to the city makes a shred of difference or not. 1m pledged jointly by both clubs to aid the victims and their families undoubtedly will. Respect.

Clubs pledge 1m

I dont think the objective was to make all the victims millionaires. £1m will go a long way for those unfortunate enough to be affected

Anybody else think the clubs could have donated more money?
The community is the club(s) without the community City and United wouldn't exist. They could have donated 20 million each and it wouldn't have burdened them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They could have also given nothing.
That's the problem with charity: you give something and people will complain that it is never enough.
Unfortunately, in this case, money will make very little difference except make the donor feel like they've done something. I mean why have the two tramps been given a sh!t ton of money when they were in the wrong place while the rest of Manchester's homeless get nothing?
I'm feeling very uneasy about this. If the money has to go somewhere then it should be going to the emergency services who will have gone through hell this week.

Great gesture from the clubs. Just out of interest how is this money (3m in total) going to get distributed?

Also the Salford Red Devils play on Friday against the Catalan somethings in some kind of Rugby match. I heard on the radio that they will be letting everyone in for free and just ask that you throw some money in one of their charity buckets.

I've been thinking about that myself, I don't know how it workd or what the money exactly is for.
22 funerals obviously, which takes the financial burden from those families. Any special medical treatment for those other 50+ injured.
What else?
Maybe any loans/repayments of the deceased that would have been passed on to a family member?
Massive tab behind the bar at the wake?
Hopefully some goes to the emergency services too who have been brilliant.

There will be children whose parents have been killed, didn't one poor girl lose her mum and dad. But I don't know what they're planning on doing with all the money. A lot will be wasted though or end up in the wrong place. No doubt some people will try it on and get their hands on it when they've got no connection to the event.

The emergency services should be able to cope and they did an admirable job in all 8 hospitals, all ambulance drivers all police services. They shouldn't have to rely or indeed be a part of any cash, that's the governments job to fund and the government should be held to account.
Some will indeed be wasted and some people will try and get a slice of the action, indeed 100% certain there are people doing pub collections at this moment in time and pocketing the money. It doesn't matter.
There are lifelong health matters here with people missing limbs and organs. There are children who will suffer metal trauma probably for the rest of their lives. There are children missing parents, parents burying children and there is nothing that will take away that pain.
But this community, this city, this group of fans who support all Greater Manchester clubs have come together to help. Time has been given freely, comfort has been there from the very moment of this terrible barbaric incident. It doesn't matter if it was 2 homeless guys or a person from leafy Hale just there to pick up there children. It was given.
Now comes the sustained effort and that needs funding so lets have less negativity on what may happen with low lives pinching what they are not entitled too, lets slowly see a person walk again, see again, trust again ...that what matters in my City United.
