So here we are just over 5 weeks until we start the new season and I am interested to hear what others think about where we are at as a club and where we are going over the next few weeks.
We have had Shakey confirmed as Boss, and irrelevant of whether we thought he was or wasn't the right man, he is the man chosen by the owners to move us forward. He has chosen to bring Appleton in as his right hand man, does that mean we have a good cop/bad cop team? What are we expecting for next season now Shakey has his hand on the tiller permanently?
So far we have seen Maguire come into the club, which I think we all agree was needed and his name was in the Top 3 of names we wanted at the end of last season. Many of us, and I was one, were saying that Morgan and Huth had reached the end of their time of being "first name on the team sheet" players and we needed to upgrade the CB positon going forward. We still need another CB imo and I am sure that is being looked into as the Transfer Window is now officially open.
We have the rumours that seem not be going away that we are looking at Ienacho from Man City, again this is a player that I think would be an excellent signing for us, rotation with Vardy, he has raw pace and knows where the back of the net is as proven in his limited appearances at Man City.
Now we are also in talks with Iborra from Sevilla, this I think could be an inspired signing, brings loads of experience, very god on the ball, can put himself about and bring true competition for places in the middle of the park. With the ever more likely departure of Mendy its an area we need to bring extra bodies into.
Then we move onto the one that we are all hoping we can actually pull off but are probably 70-30 that we can. Good old Siggurdson from Swansea, we all know what he can do and that he would be a tremendous addition to our team, Swansea are playing hard ball as is their right but I would love to see us test their resolve with a big bid. PL experience, great set pieces, good assist stats, and would be the perfect link between the Ndidi, Iborra midfield and Vardy up front. Fingers crossed on this one.....
And how can we not discuss the enigma that is Mahrez, I would imagine that he and his agent thought that he would have moved on by now.... But maybe that poor season has affected his reputation more than he thought. I still expect him to go, but it will be interesting to see his work ethic and how he is within the team if he is still here when the season starts and is selected in the first game away to Arsenal ( how many are looking forward to that? Winning away there and listening to the Arsene out chants straight away)
So we still have plenty of time to bring players in and with maybe 3 more additions we will have a much stronger squad and one that gives us hope of a Top 10 finish going into our 4th season in the PL on the trot.
I for one cant wait.

Mid Summer Thoughts

Like you, I'm excited for the coming season, the prospect of possibly bringing in Iheanacho and Gibson is just the way forward our club should be going. Young, hungry players who most importantly add quality.
A replacement for Mahrez and these 2 along with Iborra and Maguire would be a very good window for us.

After reading that can't wait for the new season.
Beat the All Blacks, get Wimbledon/ The Open and first couple of tests v SA out of the way and foottie is on us once again.
Looking at actual and prospective transfer activity we alraedy have 1 CB Mcguire and 1 midfielder Iborra looks certain, although Sunderland thought that last summer
( the lads got some sense as well ). and we seem to be after another CB, another midfielder/ no 10, a striker, a right back (back up for Simmo) and a goalkeeper. The window remains interesting and I suppose will until 31st August,SSN will make sure of that.
Its s particularly difficult start with Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea and Liverpool in the first 6 so hope we dont get too downcast if its not a great start. and who will Riyhad
be playing for in the first game, us or them. It will be interesting to see what reaction he gets from both sets of supporters.
Bring on the new season and I know its a long way off yet but would love to see us win the FA Cup, the one domestic competition that we have played in but not won
( unless you count the Checkertrade, Sherpa Van, Screwfix or whatever it is trophy)

Definitely look like we're strengthening and if we land the likes of Iheanacho as our benchmark, it starts to look like an exciting season.
However, until deals are done, anything can happen, and I know the rumours are strong on Merseyside that's sigurdsson will be going to Everton if they meet Swansea's demands. If we got him, that really would signal our intent.
As for now, I'll keep my powder dry on predictions until I know our full transfer activity. But I will go as far as saying I'm "cautiously optimistic".

I think Appleton might scare a few would be targets off

And the last trophy mentioned is one I definitely don't want us to win!
