Inequality in tennis

ennis is one of the few sports where women merit good money as the crowd's and TV audience watch women's tennis.

I do think equal prize money is a bit too far as the men's game is still more popular. Something like 3/5 would make sense.

Men already earn more than women in regular tour events. In combined events though like the Grand Slams and big tour events like Indian Wells and Miami, both tours elevate the event and profit from each other's presence and the high profile women enjoy largely equal celebrity with the men. No reason not to pay them the same. There are slam events where the Williams attract a bigger audience than the men; especially the US Open.

The scheduling is the main challenge to them playing best-of-5. It's challenging enough scheduling slams as it is. The best option is the main playing 3-sets, but they men don't want to mess with their grand slam traditions, so no one really cares about the disparity between men and women's time on court.

This is a good point, likely have to extend the tournament to fit in the extra court time.

Tbf the female players want to play five set Tennis but aren't being allowed, if scheduling is an issue extend the tournament, who's going to mind?

Fans get more tennis, players get the sets they want, sponsors get more screen time, it's win, win.

I agree though, as it stands the same money for less isn't fair or equal. I remember a couple of years ago there was a bit of fuss made about men's international soccer players getting more bonuses than the women's team, despite the women's team bringing in more revenue.

Later on in the year, people were complaining about the winners of the women's FA Cup getting £25,000 prize money where as the men get around £15 million, forgetting the argument about the men's game generating more revenue for the sport...
