The end of Petrol part 2

Ok not PS4 sorry, just an update.

Ok, I created an article last year about the rise of the electric car, it seemed obvious then that electric was the future, and now it's inevitable.

with the government announcing no new petrol or diesal cars by 2040, the ball is now definitely in the electric court, and in truth electric will be the dominant force on our roads long before 2040.

It has also been obvious watching the news how little people know and understand electric cars, they are basically better in pretty much every way. (pretty much)

I have been looking into a new car (which will be electric) but there is so much happening in the electric car market, it's hard to make a decision.

At the end of the day, we can all now agree electric is the future.

Agreed. Electric and nitrogen cars will be the future. The only concern is the infastructure required to facilitate increased electrical consumption. The issue now rests on how 'clean' the generation of electricity can be.

It's somewhat self defeating if additional energy plants are created for this end up being fueled by coal. Hopefully this isn't the case and a more sustainable alternative is selected.

Which can only be a good thing IMHO.

But we're talking 23 years here. Look how technology has advanced in the last ten years, never mind 23 years.

I would suspect most road vehicles will be driverless.

Some people are saying that most of us won't even own a car in 23 years time - we'll have an app on our smartphones (or whatever has replaced them in 2040 - a chip in our brain probably) and we'll say we need transport from A to Z at what date and time and a driverless vehicle will arrive, take us to our destination and then go off to the next person who needs to go somewhere.

Whatever happens, it's all very exciting.

Yeah, powering infrastructure is part of the clean equation, no good powering a clean car with coal, luckily coal is set to be phased out and there are days now when they are not utilised at all.

See the Star's you make a good point, actually owning a car by then might actually be a mute point, self driving cars are happening in the next few years, by then you might just call up a car as and when you need it.

Sadly the UK government have an aversion to helping the development of renewable energy, instead throwing their lot in with the Chinese and nuclear power.

yeah, although there is a question mark now over the new Hinkley station.

Luckily there are days now when non of our power comes from coal, with coal stations being phased out and renewables making up 30% and growing of our power needs.

Also people who own an electric car tend to fit solar, add a home battery system and your power bills can drop significantly.

But no I don't like the nuclear option.

I quite like nuclear power, I'd just rather we built it instead of asking a nationalised French energy giant to use a Chinese company to build it for us. The UK is absolutely pathetic when it comes to any sort of manufacturing these days.

Glad emissions are finally being taken seriously. NO2 in particular is such an horrendous chemical, it's crazy that we let diesels fill our cities with the stuff. Going to be interesting how much electric cars develop. 15 years ago they were an absolute joke but now Teslas are seen as some of the most desirable cars on the road. In another 15 years we'll probably be laughing at people who drive petrol.

Nail on head right there.

What happens during the commercial break of corrie?

They have to put a surge into the national grid cause people go pop the kettle on.

Electric cars are going to require a serge from 5:30 onwards as everyone gets home from work and plugs in their cars.

That's not necessarily a problem, but if it's not clean energy then it is pointless.

Coal, oil, gas and even nuclear by their very nature are a dying means of energy production, getting more expensive, less desirable and harder to justify as time goes on.

Britain has thousands and thousands of miles of coastline which is perfect for two things, tidal and wind, we've also got a lot of room where we can place solar panels and rivers that would be perfect for hydroplants.

Britain could easily go renewable - it wouldn't be cheap in the short term but man it would be worth it, the jobs it would create to make and maintain a fully renewable system and the long term security of not having to buy energy from foreign markets would make it viable all round.
