We controlled the game from the beginning to end, and should have won the game in the first half, all thanks to the 3-5-1-1 formation.
We had more possession, were more fluid and coherent with the ball, created more chances, and even had more shots on target, all thanks to the supposed so-called system that hinders our attack, against one of the best teams on the planet, known for their organization and defence (laughable)
After today's game, and you still question our 3-5-1-1 system, and the inclusion of Fabregas in a 3-man midfield, then I think it's safe to say you're absolutely clueless about football.
3-5-1-1 is here to stay!
Are we finally convinced with 3-5-1-1?

Add Kante on the list. His ball retention has been excellent of late.

I don't think Cesc is good enough off the ball in these big games, His defensive ability is almost non existent.
This is a big game Fabregas would suit IMO, Lots of technical players who play football rather than running around at 100 mph, I'd go with the except same team that played tonight with Luiz dropping out for Christensen.

the challenge of a 3-5-2 is that for a successful title campaign in the PL, you need your midfield to contribute plenty of goalsm probably at least 20..............that ain't gonna happen with Kante, Baka and Fab

Thought fab was ok lastnight but couldn't execute his normal passes. He's was probably our poorest player. Kante was our best midfielder and by some distance.

I don't understand this defensiveness regarding a 3-5-2/3-5-1-1 or whatever. Plenty have advocated its use but if you'd like to think otherwise, go for it.. we don't give a toss.
That said, to attribute the win solely to the formation ("all thanks to the 3-5-1-1" is rather simplistic. I mean, Hazard being back, he's sort of good.. Morata's improving fitness, combating Atletic's CBs.. Bakayoko finding his stride.. all might have helped too. Just a bit.

soc..i think in games where we just can't get a grip of the midfield its justified, but as in life there is a trade off and it means we don't attack with as many players .
If Hazard and Morata become a fantastic partnership it could generate enough goals but i suspect Conte will continue to to switch between the two formations this season.

While they may not get the goals, having Kante and Bakayoko being able to carry the ball forward while the other sits back and with Kante looking for to play more forward balls, may offset that trade-off. Agree though can hamper our wide play though as more difficult to overload the wings and all that jazz.

Sure. Conte will def use both formations for different opposition.
I am happy we finally have a coach who is willing to play football and taking the game to the opposition, rather than sitting back, and trying to counter the opposition.
Happy days ahead!
