Covenant was just poor in every way, but Prometheus had real potential, just died out

Exactly. A big let down.

Ooh lets send some degenerates to space.

Ooh let me take my helmet off and look directly at this thing that definitely will not do anything

A: Covenant lost me in the first 15 minutes.

I didnt understand why Franco's character burned to death.Literally made no sense.Plus the idea that there is no safety release mechanism inside these capsules goes against any form of common sense, something which is then brought up again at the rather predictable climax.
I didn't understand why the small support craft landed on the planets shore.Surely you'd want your craft to lack on a solid foundation ?
And then we had the no Helmets/protective headgear kerfuffle.
All in the space of 15 minutes.
And it got stupider the more the story plodded on.

Also, loved Paul and Galaxy Quest - even sci-fi can be light hearted...

Anyone watched Star Trek Discovery yet?

I've really enjoyed all 3 episodes.

With it being Star Trek, it'll always draw criticism because it doesn't cater to every little nuance but I thought it was well made and I'm looking forward to see which direction it goes in.

Saw Bladerunner 2049 last night and it was a very good film, good balance between a storyline and futuristic effects well worth paying for the big screen version.

Not sure if all these would be considered "sci-fi" but I'd have in no particular order:

2001: A Space Odyssey
King Kong (original)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Blade Runner
Terminator
Terminator 2
The Thing
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (remake)
Total Recall
Logan's Run
Robocop
Metropolis
Tron
ET
Alien
Aliens
The Running Man
Escape from New York
They Live

I know I've forgotten quite a few more too.

Also, there are some great episodes of the original Outer Limits, many of which inspired later movies.
Check out the episode "Solider" for instance, which influenced The Terminator.
