Realism

The new Rangers manager.

Realistically how much money and time will he need to make a real challenge for the title?

Or might this appointment be some one who can steady the ship for two or three years to be followed by someone else to make the big push?

He was on his way out at his previous club anyway JDF.

According to the club who had just seen their manager walk out on them? I would take that with a massive pinch of salt.

That's like the bloke who gets binned by his bird and says 'aye but I was pure going to chuck her anyways'

Did he walk out on them?! Could have sworn you had to pay compensation for him.

I’m sure there was a bit of bravado about the fact that your club paid to get him out his contract early so he could asses the squad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It was on the club website that they had agreed a fee for his early release. Quite a bit of fanfare about it too as I recall. Hey ho.

3 months notice. Pfft

ffs I’ve got nearly all my staff on minimum 3 months notice with the top ones on a year. I can’t believe Rangers would behave like that. In fact I can’t think any professional club would behave like that. They were proclaiming from high and low that he was a long term appointment and would be heavily backed, which they did.
-----------------------------------------------

With all due respect I don't think it matters a jot what you do at your firm Ginger.

Football is a totally different game to most professions. When your time is up your time is up as a manager and they usually want them out as swiftly as possible.

In business longer notice periods are usually there to allow you time to recruit a replacement, do a handover etc. And often if the fear is you will go to a rival you might just get put on gardening leave for the duration of your notice.

Notice periods depend on the market you are in and its not unusual for the employer to only have to give say a months notice whilst the employee has to give three etc.

As everyone is taking great delight in saying Pedro was a gamble who came from left field.

That is exactly the type of situation I would want to protect myself against as an employer.

I am not saying I believe it is 3 months but I would not be surprised if it is shorter than 'normal' in this situation as the club looked to protect themselves.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yep, fair points. I was just using that as a guide as to wha5 you could expect in a “normal” work situation but agreed they are completely different jobs - thankfully. 😂

I just can’t see a club the size of Rangers behaving that way nor could I see Pedro or his agent accepting such greens once he knew he was getting the job.

One years notice on a 3 year contract is plausible. Not 3 months though 👍

Yes we paid to get him out of his contract.

Point was he left them and had obviously told them he wanted to join rangers. The mechanics of that weren't the point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Except he didn’t leave until the compensation was paid for a guy with a few months left to run on his 2 year contract, that there doesn’t seem to be any plan to have been extended?

He’d been there for roughly 18 months, and you don’t believe they were going to let him leave anyway?

Surely, if he was any good and they were happy with him, then they would at least have started talking to him about it?

Sorry JDF-having seen him work up close, and looking at his record, you think that his previous club are just making it up?!?

I seem to recall his last club were prepared to talk to him about an extension but once they knew Rangers were knocking on his door it was all then just about the right level of compensation to let him go.

Which Rangers settled.

As I recall anyway.

So you’re saying that his payoff has been agreed then?

I’m saying he’s been sacked, which he has.

Nice try tho
