Liverpool 1 v 1 Everton: Live

It’s Derby Day boys & girls and whilst I’ve woken up to a light dusting of snow on the Wirral the game should go ahead. Liverpool are in a fine run of form since a horror show against Spurs and for all the goals we’ve conceded away from Anfield, we’ve been bang on it at home only conceding two goals.

The smelly blue scruffs from across the park have suffered a miserable season to date, despite spending an absolute fortune in the summer and being lauded by pundits as having done great business. In reality they sold they’re best player and over a third of they’re goals and went and spent a fortune on sh!te.

They have how ever “by they’re standards" enjoyed an upturn in form, winning two league games on the bounce.

Everton come to Anfield searching for a first win this century, the last coming in September 1999.

Venue - Anfield, Liverpool.

Kick Off - 14:15pm

Liverpool team news - Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno could be sidelined for potentially up to six weeks with an ankle injury.

The defender will be assessed by a second specialist over the weekend but the fear is the problem, sustained in Wednesday's 7-0 win over Spartak Moscow, could keep him out until the new year.

James Milner is likely to fill the vacancy for Sunday's Merseyside derby at home to Everton while captain Jordan Henderson is available after sitting out in midweek.

LIVERPOOL XI: Mignolet, Gomez, Lovren, Klavan, Robertson, The Ox, Henderson, Milner, Salah⚽️, Solanke, Mane.

SUBS: Karius, Wijnaldum, Firmino, Coutinho, Can, Ings, Alexander-Arnold

Everton team news - Phil Jagielka is set to return to the Everton squad for Sunday's Merseyside derby at Anfield.

The defender missed the Premier League victories over West Ham and Huddersfield but is fit again, although he and Michael Keane may have to settle for spots on the bench after back-to-back clean sheets.

James McCarthy and Yannick Bolasie are back in training and nearing returns but both will be given run-outs for the under-23 side before being considered for the first team.

EVERTON XI: Pickford, Kenny, Martina, Holgate, Williams, Gueye, Calvert-Lewin, Davies, Rooney, Sigurdsson, Niasse

Subs: Robles, Schneiderlin, Keane, Jagielka, Lennon, Vlasic, Lookman

Of course Henderson didnt cost us the match, Lovren did. But there is nothing wrong with saying he is not good enough to be a first team regular for us. In fact there is a lot right with it.

Easiest way to determine where we are at with the likes of Lovren and Henderson is to ask the question :
Shud we transfer list the 2 of them in January, which of the teams in the Premier league top 6 wud rush to put in an offer so they can immediately include them in their 1st choice line up?

Stayed off the match thread as I was over half an hour behind but that felt like a defeat. Completely battered them on the pitch but let down by a poor mistake and possibly a dubious decision by the ref. The critics will be out in force. Obviously we should have been out of sight long before the penalty. Very disappointed.

You could use that logic for starting players at every top 6.

He'd get games for all of them bar City I would have thought.

Hey guys I took the liberty of googling this to back up the excellent points made about Henderson slowing down play in all the games that we won easily and that all he does is pass sideways.

http://www.squawka.com/players/jordan-henderson/stats#performance-score#liverpool-(current)#english-barclays-premier-league#8#season-2017/2018#819#all-matches#1-15#by-match

Apparently only 83% of his passes are forward.

Nothing wrong with Klopp picking that team! We dominated from first minute to last! A soft pen gives them a goal! What was wrong is key players constantly let the side down again and again! Lovren and Henderson! Henderson just can't move the ball quickly! Look at same players in the role like Kante. They move the ball much quicker! Can on Wednesday against Moscow. He got the ball and played direct passes forward with pace on it to the front. Not Henderson he rolls the ball slowly either side of him! He constantly allows other people to pass the ball for him forward!

On another note Joe Gomes was excellent today! He was so calm and won so many balls in tackles cleanly and passed it forward. He is more of a leader then Jordan Henderson with him shouting!

I pretty much agree with this Gomez was my motm.

We dominated but we missed Gini. He keeps possession but intictlively knows when to pass the ball forward at the right times.

Henderson looks short on confidence for me. He can and has played better than he done has this season. He is there to provide ball retention and press, but we do look more fluent with Can on the pitch in his position.

You still haven’t answered the perfectly reasonable question of why I’ve never seen you here when we’ve won?

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BBC Sport: "Obviously, it is not important what I think (about the penalty)."

On Sadio Mane missing a big chance to make it 2-0: "It is easy to say. He knows this. he made his chance by himself and thought he could score for sure. That is what strikers do. There is no blame. It is just one situation. We were the dominant side. We had to cope with the way Everton play. We had intensity and did everything to win the game. I have heard people say it was a penalty, but Williams did it 50 times against Solanke but no free-kick. We cannot change it. So short after the game it feels unfair. But that is life and football."

On his substitutions: "I can see it in everyone's eyes, when we win everyone thinks it is a good idea. When we don't I take the blame. I took Salah off and put Firmino on. I have been asked if that was a mistake, that it is my life. I think the performance shows we made the right decision, but the result does not."

On keeping his squad fresh: "Twenty-one days, seven games. We can push them through until one is injured and then people say the squad is not deep enough. The players who came on did a brilliant job. Usually you win a game like this with the chances we created."
