Kilkenny - Why He Deserves It

Kilkenny, whilst we can all admit is a one passed player who cannot shoot and is incredibly slow, yet has a fantastic eye for a pass, how many players do you get that really want to play for the club? According to the YEP interview Kilkenny was willing to accept a wage that he wasn't happy with, but he was told that if he played well it would increase. A player willing to PLAY for his wage. Do you think Brown plays for Leeds because he wants to? No. Nobody else would take him at his age he knew his opportunities were limited. The new Finnish lad is the only person in years that has really wanted to play for us except for players we've bought from the lower leagues (Schmeichel and Paynter for example.)

A player that WANTS to play for our club should be respected and given a good reception. From what he has said he was treated unfairly. He was on international duty and wanted to get that over and done with first yet the club told them he was taking ages to get back to them so they decided against it.

I was a big fan of Killa, altho he was pretty poor in his final season. Moved the ball well and was good in front of goal wen he was played in ACM. Altho he's been replaced now by Varynen who I cant wait to see, altho Gryzurn will probably keep him on the bench like banana man. Johnso has been replaced by the better Clayton, Just Howson left to replace now,

He was average. He would sit there waving his arms about trying to control things yet the defence always lumped it long. I don't think we suited his style. Credit to him, he never let us down and was a decent squad player, but nothing special...

Exactly why he deserves a reception. Not down to footballing skill because, whilst been one of the higher earners, his wage by no way reflected his ability, but he never looked like he wasn't willing to give it his all. He might of had his strops but at least they were for the right reasons, because he wanted to win. He wanted to play for us and was clearly upset at the fact he couldn't. He didn't ask for a massive new contract.
You have to respect footballers for other things apart from ability sometimes. Andy Hughes for example, crap player in his last year skill wise, but we loved him. Kilkenny is some way of his standard of giving it his all but a lot more than some players.
And also "We need a somma".
You're comment about Howson, I'm guessing you judge him on the basis of him playing out of his favoured position for 90% of a season. Not many will argue that Howson could play in the Premiership as long as he was played in a free role. And good in front of goal? Kilkenny couldn't shoot to save his life, why? Because he side footed everything. He very rarely shot with his laces. If you're going to side foot it from range it has to be inch perfect and the only time he really managed that was v Preston, his goal against Yeovil, whilst class, was just one of those "Might as well whack it moments" that we saw Johnson have many of and got lucky v Arsenal.

Kilkenny was a good player.

He may not have been a bright lights and big band type of player but he gave his all, whether he had off days or not.

I find it interesting that when a player leaves people tend to pick their faults, and very few mention their good points.

Some hold the attitude, if he doesn't want to play for Leeds then good riddance and he's rubbish.

Our game always seemed better in midfield when Kilkenny played, or improved when he come of subs bench.

He's been called up for international duties, so he must have something.

Other managers/coiaches seem to be able to get the best out of our ex players, so why can't Grayson?

Kilkenny comes back to haunt us, he may put on a good show that turns the game, who knows.

He hasn't done anything not to deserve a good reception.

Always came up to fans and applauded them especially at away games win lose or draw.

He deserves respect for that alone.
