Died Laughing

Simon Fraser the 11th Lord Lovat was beheaded in 1747.

Last person to be killed in that way - he joined the losing side in the

Jacobite Rising.

Some toffs had paid for a platform to be erected so they could see him

being executed.

Before he got the chop the platform collapsed killing all the occupants.

Lovat found this hilarious and was still laughing when the axe fell.

This gave rise to the saying 'He laughed his head off'.

Never knew that.

Every day's a skool day on here.

Dunno how they thought victory was possible without the backing of the French in 1715.

They had some success, but really only in the Highlands before Lord Lovat declared for the king and got his men to abandon the Jacobite cause. His men were under the leadership of a rival clan leader who was angling for Lovat's lands and deeds etc.

The Spanish even have us a hand a few years, 1719, after the first uprising but it was a shambles and they got slaughtered at Glen Shield before being picked off as they retreated. Rob Roy also turned up late for thay battle 😂

And you have to wonder how they managed to fight there as it's steep as hell 😂 and despite its history is really bonnie. Also wrote a work van off just along from it a few years back 😂

I find the whole Jacobitism story quite interesting, never thought I would be talking about it on JA606 though!

The large Duke of Sutherland monument is a sore one for most folk up this way.

Have plenty of pals up that area and they used to go and vandalise it when they were younger (spray painting it, throwing sheeite at it etc).
