United close to a deal for Malcom

Few reports today saying that we are close to agreeing a deal with Bordeaux to sign Malcom for around £40 million.

Haven’t seen much of him other than the customary YouTube glance. Seems good though. Plays on the right but left footed. Excellent dribbler with skills and pace. Certainly something a bit more ‘X-Factor’ than what we have there at the moment. Almost like Mahrez but with more explosive pace from what I’ve seen on the scouting clips.

Anyone excited by this if it does come off?

Why wouldn't we just sign Mahrez?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mahrez is contracted until 2020 I believe.

If that's the case, we'd be breaking transfer records again (or thereabouts) to sign him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mahrez is somebody who would happily make things very difficult for Leicester if it meant forcing a move.

There were reports of a £50m valuation when Roma bid for him in the summer.

Regardless, we need to stop spending £30m+ for average players who end up saturating our squad. We have too many of them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There's a difference between selling your player to a club you know is poorer in a different league, and selling your player to a club at the top of your own division that you know has money to burn.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Or, if you like, the City or United price would not be the same as the Liverpool price, never mind the Roma price.

Agree Rosso. However as i said Mahrez is somebody who will happily make things difficult for Leicester.

We don't need anybody in January anyway, we've little to play for. Id rather go fir Mahrez in the summer personally, he'd be an almost guaranteed improvement for the first eleven.

An odd move, we have two young players who play wide who are far from the finished product, do we need a third?

We do have a CL to play for

Of course we’re far from the favourites but we’re no worse than the Chelsea side which won in 2012

Seville is a winnable tie and then we find ourselves in the quarters. After that anything could happen

Sevilla could easily best us but I think we will get through. As soon as we face Madrid, PSG, Barca or City though we will go out. We are some way behind those sides and it's only natural. We've been in no man's land for a few years. People don't seriously expect us to go from Europa winners to CL winners in one season surely.

Our team is improving but weve got a few years yet before we can realistically challenge for the CL trophy again.

I don’t think Real are anything special this season.

We are far from favourites but but we certainly have the ingredients for a shock result or two. I think we’ll make the semis.

Possibly. We'll get past Seville.

The Porto, Liverpool and Chelsea squads that won the CL weren't better than us. However, they were probably better drilled - further into their development as collectives - and each won in the absence of an outstanding team in their year's competition.

Still, if there's a chance to boost our squad and our short and medium term chances, I'm all for it.
