He’s gone
As he didn’t leave last summer I thought we might be able to keep him until this summer so it’s a real shame that he’s left now but to look on the positive side we got a few extra months from him.
I guess it’s good business and without his sale we probably wouldn’t have been able to get Van Dijk but it does feel like 2 steps forward and one step back. Klopp definitely is building a team here and without Coutinho a big piece of this team is now missing and needs to be filled in quickly but with similar quality. I’d be happy enough with someone like Mahrez.
We all knew this was coming but for me it still doesn’t make it feel any better right now but I and I’m sure many other fans who feel the same will quickly get over it like we have done in the past. A key player leaves but there are always plenty more who will happily play for this great club.
Thank you Philippe for all those special goals. (You weren’t very good at scrappy ones were you?)
I eagerly await your replacement. Spend that money wisely Klopp.

He's a good player but for that money you have pulled Barca's pants down, I can see Liverpool making a few good signing soon.

I think six months is enough to gauge whether the player has changed his mind. He didn't so unfortunately he was allowed to go. We tried everything to keep him. Rejected his request to go, offered him more money than he was offered at Barca and even the captaincy was mentioned.
We now need to find a replacement.
It happens every couple of years but it still doesn't get any easier. My first memory of being distraught at a favourite player leaving was McManaman and it hasn't got easier since. But you move in and find a new favourite and hope that the club replaces him.

So no one's mentioning Alli? He's currently got a bit of an attitude problem - the eternal problem of youth - but wouldn't anyone prefer him to Mahrez?

Alli isn't mentioned as Spurs would never sell to us. Say you went for market value and put it obviously below Coutinho and went for a hypothetical £100m(note I'm not saying he's worth that). Spurs are potentially throwing away more than that by selling one of their best players to one of the clubs they can realistically surpass to get into a CL position meaning the transfer would be worth double that to them, at least.

I might add that it did please me that Liverpool/ Klopp put their foot down last summer and were bold enough to say no to the repeated offers from Barcelona which is something that has rarely if ever happened with a big transfer before with Liverpool that I can remember. There needs to be more club power when it comes to contracts. It worked in our favour - more £££.

Sky sources say Liverpool aren't interested in Mahrez. Makes sense as he's far more like Salah and Mane than he is Coutinho.
