Holgate v Firmino

Obviously without being there it is hard to know exactly what has gone on/been said. However, having watched the incident, there is no reaction from the ref to suggest that he heard anything racist. And it doesn't seem to me that Firmino is that kind of person (I could be wrong of course).

So, assuming that Firmino didn't say anything, what do we think is Holgate's motivation here? Is it a case of that he just misheard what was said ant genuinely thought that something racist had been said?

The more cynical side of me thinks that he might have been worried that he was going to see a red card following his shove on Firmino and so claimed that he had been racially abused as to distract/get on side the ref. What are everyone's thoughts on the incident?

I am not the one who did not get the point of what another poster was making.

Ah, the unspecified "missing point", again.

So, enlighten me, oh wise one: which point was I missing?

The point that if you are going to use one daft argument for one player you can use the same for the other.

I'm sorry but Holgate should be an oscar winning actor if he made it all up. He clearly heard something he didn't like. That reaction was genuine. Whether it was racism or not none of us can possibly know though. He may have misheard for sure.

He went from looking a bit scared and guilty looking to appalled in miliseconds so whatever Firmino said wasn't pleasant was it?

People saying he's made it all up is pretty harsh. To accuse someone of being racist is not an easy thing to do. He must have been fairly sure to do that if indeed that's what's happened. To put someone's career on the line like that ain't easy.

Investigations are needed for this reason. Suarez got banned because he changed his story a little and admitted to using a term he believed to be 'endearing' in south America.

Watching the many on the dipper board all of a sudden become Uruguayan Linguistic experts was funny.

Most of them can't even speak English.

And what persuaded you I was missing that, when in fact it was the very point I was replying to?

So tell me why it was stupid?
(And also, why you answered it, if you thought it was stupid).

Ridiculous to suggest he made it up. It’s quite clear he heard something which he thought was racist. Whether it was said or not is a different matter
