To be honest, we've been offered work further afield, but it's a bit of a balancing act with other on going contracts that mostly based in and around the north west.
As you say, it really is a fascinating business to be in or around, watching the amount of time effort and money that goes into making these productions. From historical research, set dressing, lighting, and filming, and that's before you even think about editing and post production.
My 15 year old daughter is very creative, artistic and looking to see what she might want to do in the future, and I have told her this might be exactly the type of industry she might like to get into.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
if your daughter wants to get into the art department side I think going to uni could benefit her. I don't know what the exact route is to get into that side of things.

For me though, if you want to get into production/editorial then uni is a waste of time if you manage to get into the industry first and gain a few credits. But on the flip side, a good media uni has decent contacts and it's probably worth studying in it for that reason.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Was talking to the some of the ladies on set responsible for historical accuracy, in terms of furnishings, decor, costume etc, and it was facinating to be honest.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It really is fascinating, I've worked on a few productions at Pinewood and the work they put into those studios and how accurate it all is. It really does blow your mind, I'm just so pleased I've been given a chance to experience it all. TV is a beautiful world.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well good luck to you Shaq, hope it all works out for you.

yea good luck with it all. Media City does seem superb, have some decent stuff going on up there now

cheers lads, I'd love to move back to Manchester one day. The industry up there is fairly decent for work, and I can't stand London but it's still the media hub of the country for now. We'll see though.

yea made no odds to my lad as we're in between..cost of living was cheaper up north for him though. Channel 4 are moving out of London next year aren't they? maybe birmingham or coventry I think I heard

Just finished season 3.

Really don't get the appeal of Tom Hardy mumbling his way throuh another role. But people love him so meh
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We see things very differently.

The scene where Solomons gives his back handed apology to Arthur then takes the p1ss out of his religion or when Tommys son is missing the bit where Alfie reminds him of how many mothers are without their boys due to him are highlights of the show for me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
the bit where Brody goes down to London to meet with Hardy, that scene was pure brilliance
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes for me that was that was the best scene Brody was in, anybody who won't miss Alfie (if he's dead) has not been watching properly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
he'll be back. if not who's gonna look after his dog
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The dog was my main concern.

Quite a few scenes in the last series were filmed in Victoria Square, Ancoats. People still actually live there and still looks pretty much like it would have done in the 1920's.

We done work on locations in Mangle Street, and the fire station London road.
Best thing about those jobs, was having a parking permit from the council, which pretty much allowed me to park my car anywhere in central Manchester.
Funny watching the pent up frustration on the faces of the countless traffic wardens who approached the car, only to be told to basically fluck off by my special badge.

The ending of the second series was a TV classic imo.
