Chambers and Holding

So decent result for us last night, especially considering the team we put out and we've managed to keep it interesting for the second leg.

Firstly I thought the defence played well last night and both Chambers and Holding looked defensively assured. Chambers in particular had a very solid game, after his shaky performance last week against Chelsea and Holding put in an assured performance after being given the run-around from the 18 year old Nottingham Forest striker.

However the signing of our new young centre back gives me the impression then Mr Wenger has lost faith in one or both of these players. So given the choice out of Holding and Chambers going forward, what one would rather keep, or neither?

Personally I still think there is a decent defender in Holding and would be happier to persist with him. He seems to be taking the Chambers route of initially impressing and then, after a couple of shaky games, completely losing confidence in himself. I would be inclined to give Holding next season out on loan and then take it from there, after hopefully a full season of game time under he's belt. With Chambers i'd be happy to cash in in the summer. Never feel confident with him on the pitch and just feel there is always a mistake around the corner with him. Still think he would fetch a decent enough fee considering his age and nationality.

The Mavronponas (sp?) signing was the first from the recommendations from Sven Mislantat. It has no bearing on how Wenger rates Holding or Chambers

Seems strange that we would sign another young centre back of a similar age if Wenger see's Chambers and Holding as the future?

No harm in getting in another young CB. Not as though we're gifted with talent in that area.

TBH, i still have hope that a new manager can get the best out of Holding & Chambers. They're not bad defenders, just left hopelessly exposed by the lack of cover and defensive discipline.
